LTo .all 'whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, WALTER H. PERKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, inthe county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful lIm rovement in Powder-Box. Tops; and I do liiereby declare the following,
panying drawings and the-letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1 a side view of the upper part of a powder box constructed in accordance with my invention Fig. 2 a transverse sectional view with the cap turned to the closed position. Fig. 3 a similar view with the top in the open position. Fig. 4 a top or plan view of the Fig. fan inside view of the `topof the Fig. 6 an inside viewof the cap removed. Fig. 7 a plan view of the disk, detahed. Fig. 8 an edge view of the same. This inventionrelates to an improvement inpowder box tops, that is, to s for metal boxes adapted to contain powciier and provided with perforations through which powder may be discharged; the object of the invention being a simple and convenient arrangement of parts whereby the box is tightlyv closed when not in use so that .the escape of powder .or lossl of its medicinal scribed and claims. @n
In carrying out my'invention, I employal box 2 of any desired design havin a top 3 which is firmly se ured to or forme inte ral with the body. r his top is formed wit a neck 4. and a crowneditop plate formed integral therewith. In'th1s top plate are a se- Aparticularly recited in the the ne the metal is thrown out to form an annular rib 8. .Setting over the necky is a cap 9 the lower edge 10-of which is turned in ward beneath the `annular rib 8. In the top oi" the cap are a series of perforations 11 adapted to register with the perforations 6,- and at one p o1nt the metal is struck inward to form a short stud 12 which enters the slot 7 so as to limit the rotation of -the cap on the closed.
with an integral neck and to neck formed with an outward neck. The sides or the cap are milled for convenience in turnin When the ca turned so that thevstu reaches the limit of its movement in one direction, the perforations in the cap and topiplate register so as to,l l
ermit the discharge o the contents of the ox. On the other hand, when the cap is turned to the limit ofr its movement in the o posite direction, the perforations are out o line with each other so that the cap is In orderto make a close iit between the cap and the top plate, I insert a disk 13 of paper or any other suitable soft material. This disk corresponds in'diameter to the internal diameter-of the cap and is provided with perforations 14 corresponding to the perforations 11 therein, and with a clearance hole 15 for the passage of the stud 12. By the engagement of the disk with the stud'l2 the disk is held stationary in the cap so that .its perforations are always in line with. the'perforations l1, when the cap is turned so that the perforations 1l in the cap register with the perforations '6, -in the topplate. The provision of a disk acts as a sort\ of packing between the can and top plate so that 'a comparatively tight joint is made between them 'to revent moisture entering when the box is clbsed and the too free movement 'of' the cap.-
pI claim The combination plate, s aid y ro ectlng annular rib, and the tcp plate p J perforations and a slot, a ca I sides set over said neck and lliaving its lower edge turned into engagement with said rib, said cap formed with perforations to register with the perforations 1n the top plate, andan inwardly extending stud to .enter said slot, anda disk located in said cap and having perforations correspondin to the perforations in the cap, and ahoIe for engagement with said stud,7substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this .specification in the presence of two subscriblng witnesses. .WALTER H. PERKINS. Witnesses:` Q y .JOHN S. NEAGLE,'
