BEDSTEAD ATTACHMENT. I
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that'll, JOHN BARBORA, a subject of the Emperor-of Austria-Hungary, residing at Buifalo, rin the county. .of Erie and. State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedstead Attachments, of which the following his-a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bedstead attachments. An object of the present invention is to provide an attachment for bedsteads n the form of a bracket support carrying a table.
top or a receptacle structure to be'usedespecially in a sick-room. j A further object Oftl'lfi 111Ve11t1OI1 1s to provide a table or receptacle attachment for bedsteads that may be easily and quickly adjusted as to height and be retained in its adjusted position, whilethe samemay be movedin an angular direction and held in such posltion.
With the above general objects in view Initiation and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and then claimed. V
In the accompanying drawings which show the preferred embodiment and modification of the present invention, and to which reference is had herein by like characters designating corresponding parts throughout the several views :Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the device at tached to the side rail of a bed. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same. Fig. 3 is a View taken on line IIIIII of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a vertical side elevational View partly in section of a modified form of the invention. Fig. 5 is a front elevational view of the same partly broken away, and, Fig. 6 is a detail plan view of the spider for holding the table top in its laterally-adjusted position.
tically-adjustable arm carrying a table top or receptacle. 'In the modified form of the invention, the support carries at its upper Specification of Letters Batent.
with the clamping block 16.
end a threaded member adapted toreceive bracket arms that support the table top,
the bracket arms being adjustable vertically and laterally, with means for holding the same in its adjusted position. v
Referringmore in detail to the accompanying drawings, and particularly to the preferred form of invention as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the reference-numeral 10 deslgnates the side rail of a bed, which as shown is of angle-iron construction,- although the present invention is applicable to a bed'of wooden construction. The main support of the attachmentconsists of. an upright member 11 having projecting from one face thereof an upper lug 12 and lower lug or projection 13. The lower lug 13 carries the lateral projections 1a apertured to provide a guide for the depending arms 15 carried by the clamping block 16. A screw 17 passes through the lower lug l3 and has an operating wheel 18 upon the lower end thereof, and has a loose connection as at 19 Projecting from the opposite side of the vertical support is a pair of spaced lugs 20 apertured for the reception ofa vertical arm 21. The arm 21 has a head block 22 suitably-fastened to the upper end thereof, which block carries a plurality of preferably curved supporting arms 23 having mounted upon the upper ends thereof the box receptacle 24:. The box receptacle 24 as shown in Fig. 1, is preferably provided with a drawer slide 25 and has secured to one side thereof a spring arm 26 which may act as a clamp for the securing of papers, napkins, or any articles to be placed therebetween. The spaced lugs 20 have connected thereto upon opposite sides thereof the rack bars 27, the teeth of which are disposed outwardly thereof and cooperate with means carried by the arm to hold the receptacle or table top in an adjusted position. This means consists in securing to the arm 21 in any suitable manner, such as indicated at 28, a cross-arm 29 having the outer ends thereof bifurcated as at 30 and adaptedto receive in said bifurcated ends,
holding the table top or receptacle 24 in an adjusted position. The particular location of the lugs 20 operating in connection with r Patented Mar. 30, 1915.
Application filed June 22, 1914. Serial No. 846,645. r
a to-by the chain 36 a lockingpin 37. A pair the arm 21 will position the receptacle 24 connection with the screw .17 and hand wheel. 18 in a manner similar to the form shown in Figs. 1 to The upper lug 20 of the form shown in Fig. 4 has secured therein by the pin '33, a vertically-disposed threaded rod 34 provided with an eye 35 at its upper end and having connected there of nuts 38' are provided on the rod 34 and suitably spaced as shown in Fig.4, the lower nut constituting a seat for the lower arm 39 of .a bracket 40, while the upper end tends toliinit theupward movement of the upper arm 41 of said bracket 40. A table 42 of suitable shape and "construction is carried by the bracket 40. The locking pin 37 i passes through an opening 42 provided in the upper bracket arm 41 and passes through selected openings 43 provided in the spider 44 secured as at 45 to the threaded rod 34. The height of the table 42 may be easily adjusted by moving the nuts 38 over thethreadedrod 34'while the lateral position of the table may be controlled by the pin 37 passing through the selected opening 43 in the spider 44.
r .7 The present invention is particularly adapted for sick rooms where the patient is 'con'finedin a bed, and is vof such construction that the same may be easily and quickly attached to the side rail of either a wooden or iron bed with the upper receptacle or table top adjustedlover the bed as to height and: lateral disposition.
While the drawings showthe preferred embodiments of the'present invention, I do not wish to be confined to the exact-details of construction shown," as'various forms, modifications and arrangement of the parts as shown may he had Without departing scope of the invention j from the spririt and as claimed.
What I claim as newlyl. Ina device of the class described, an
upright support comprising complemental clamping members operating in connection cal arm movably mounted in the lugs, a
cross arm carriedby the vertical. arm and having each end thereof bifurcated'to pro-1:
vide a pairof arms to inclose the rack bars, I
and pawls-pivoted to the cross-arms and arranged to engage the rack bars. 2. In a 'devic eofl he class described, an
upright support: comprising 'complemental clamping members operating in connection with the siderail of a bed,.- spaced lugs' carried by the opposite sideof the support,
rack bars connecting thei'spaced lugs and having their teeth; disposed .out'wardly, ia 7 vertical arm movably mounted in said lugs,
a cross-arm carried by said vertical arm and having each end thereof bifurcated tojpro vide apair of arms inclosing therack bars,
and pawls pivoted in-the ends of the crossarms and adapted to'engage the rackba'rs: v
