WATER-WINGS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES HOLROYD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVater-Wings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the inflated bags commonly known as water wings and used by persons bathing who are unable to swlm, and the main object thereof is to PI'OVldQ a means for connection with the bathing suit in order to prevent the wings from escaping from the bather, and to prevent said wlngs enlarged section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a view of a person wearing the wings with my attachment.
In the drawings forming a part of this application I have shown wings 4 and 5 joined by means of a reduced ortion 6 which carries the inflating nozzle and the present preferred form of embodiment of my .invention is shown connected therewith, comprising a strip of suitable material, 8, bent downwardly over the upper edge of the reduced portion 6 to form a front member 9 and a rear member 10, the front member being provided with a hole 11 therethrough for the passage of the, nozzle 7, and both members being provided with registering button holes 12 and 13', for the respective members, adapted for engagement with a button 1 1 on' the bathing suit. By means of this attachment, it will be seen that the wings cannot slide from side to side, neither can they escape from the body of the bather, and 'not only is the possibility of accident prevented, but this security 'msures confidence on the part of the wearer, whereby he may be tempted Specification of Letters Patent.

into water sufficiently deep to enable vhim' to make the necessary efforts to learn to SWlIIl.
The invention is very simple, and is not in permanent connection with the garment nor. with the Wings in the form illustrated,
but this will not prevent my attaching the same to the wings permanently and still be within the spirit of my invention. I may also form the same of a portion of the material of the wing portion 6, the only requirement being thatI provide a member adapted for detachable attachment to a garment, either by buttoning the same thereto, or in any other desired manner.
In the form illustrated, the front member 9 serves the additional purpose of protecting the water wings at the very weakest point, viz :-around the nozzle where the material of the wings connects therewith,
without interfering in the slightest degree .With the nozzle.
I may make the device of any suitable form, and of any desired material, and may vend the same with the wings, or separately, or both, but in all the forms the intent re mains the same, that of protection against loss of the wings, andagainst the slipping of the wings from one side to the other.
Having fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
l. The combination" with water wings, having a nozzle for inflation-of said wings, of a device for attaching said wings to a garment, and protecting said wings around said nozzle.
2. The combination with water wings, of
a device, independentof said wings, for attaching said wings to a garment, comprising a strip of suitable material passed around said wings in the osition of the nozzle, said strip being provided with a button hole adjacent each'end and a hole for the passage of said nozzle.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name tothis specification in the presence of two subscriblng witnesses.
