EL- LIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporter Loops; of which I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

In certain forms of garment supporters, and particularly such as are used for supporting stockings, it is customary to provide a button loop ada ted to cooperate with a headed button or stud in engaging the upper portion of the stocking. In certain popular styles of stocking supporters, the

lower po'tions of the button loops are pro vidccl with elastic pads in order to more securely retain the stocking in engagement with the button and loop. and to prevent undue chafing or wear of the stocking.

The obiect of the present invention is to pro ide a garment sup orter loop having a simple, cheap and effective construction of elastic pad, and the in ention consists in the feat es of noveltv hereinafter described, illustrat d in the accompanying drawing and particularlv point d out in the I claims at the end of this specification.

Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a garment supporter loop embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in vertical section on line Q-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation showing a somewhat modified form of the invention. Fig. 4 is a view in vertical section on line 4.--4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detail perspecti e view showing a modified form of metal clip.

Mv invention is shown as applied to a familiar form of garment supporter loop that is made preferablv of wire bent to form the side members 6. the top member 7 and the lower cross bar 8. The side members 7 are expanded at their upper portion to permit the headed button to be inserted and are contracted above the cross bar 8 to form the space wherein the headed button with the garment thereon will be retained. To the top of the upper bar 7 will be connected the usual means for attachment to the garment supporter tab. but this forms no part of my present invention. Preferably. the cross bar 8 is flattened. as shown, and upon this cross bar is securely held the elastic pad that Specification of Letters Patent.

characterizes my present invention. In the preferred form of the invention, the elastic pad consists of a tubular rubber body 10, inside of which is placed a sheet metal clip 11. The clip 11 is of thin sheet metal but of sufiicient thickness so that when the rubber body 10, with the sheet metal clip therein, is placed upon the cross bar 8 and the sides of the pad are compressed against the cross bar, the clip 11 will serve to rigidly hold the pad in position upon the cross bar. In forming the improved pads, I preferably cut a soft rubber tube into short lengths that equal or slightly exceed the distance between the contracted portions of the side arms 6 of the loop, while the metal clips 11 are c t in lengths ap roximately equal to the distance between the side arms 6. In the fo m of he in ent on illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. the elast c port on l0 of the pad is shown as m de of a solid piece of rubber with thickened portions or beads at its lower ends but the metal clip 11 is placed between the cross bar 8 of the loop and the rubber 10 and the clip 11 is provided at its lower edges with re erted flanges 12 that sec rely nin the lower edges or beads of the rubber pad 10. Hence. it will lde seen that after the clip l1 has been securely fastened to the rubber 10 of the pad b means of the reverted flan es 12 and the clip 11 has been slipped over the cross bar S and the lower portions of the clip have been brought together beneath the cross bar, the pad will be securely and rigidly held upon the cross bar. In this form of the invention. the cross bar 8" is shown as round, but in practice it will be found that the pressure of the rubber 10 against the side bars 6 of the loop, together with the pressure of the metal clip 11* against the cross bar, will serve to guard against any shifting of the cros bar. If desired, however, the metal clips may be formed slightly longer than the distance between the side bars 6 of the loops and may have their ends notched to receive the side bars and thus more effectively guard against any tendency of the pad to turn upon the cross bar at the bottom of the loop. In Fig. 5 of the drawings, I have shown one of the metal clips l1 as provided in its ends with notches 18 that engage the inner portions of the contracted side bars 16; of the loop immediately above the cross By my present invention I have provided an extremely simple, cheap and effective construction of garment supporter loop. Obviously. the details of the invention will be varied without departure therefrom. Thus. for example, while I prefer that the rubber portion of the pad shall be formed of tubular material, this is not essential to the invention in its broadest scope. nor is it essential that the metal clip shall be of precisely the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing. since obviously the shape of the clips might be varied.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A button loop for hose supporters comprising side members contracted at their lower ends, a cross bar extending between said side members at their lower ends. a metal clip extending over the top of and straddling said cross bar, and an elastic pad extending over and covering the upper portion of said metal clip and straddling the said cross bar, said clip engaging said pad to hold the same in place upon the bar.

2. A button loop for hose supporters comprising side members contracted at their lower ends, a cross bar connecting said side members at their lower ends. an elastic pad mounted upon said cross bar, and a metal clip straddling said cross bar and holding said pad thereon, said metal clip being arranged inside of said elastic pad.

8. A button loop for hose supporters comprising side members contracted at their lower ends, a cross bar connecting said side members at their lower ends, an elastic pad formed of tubular material mounted upon said cross bar and a metal clip arranged Within said pad and straddling said cross bar and serving to hold the pad upon said bar.

4. A button loop for hose supporters comprising side members contracted at their lower ends, a flattened bar extending between said side members at their lower ends,
