FOLDING CHAIR.

Application filed June 18 provement is to provide a foldin chair that may be placed on the seat of an or inary chair to serve as a high chair for children. I accomplish this object by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1, is a view in side elevation of a structure embodying my invention as it appears when placed on anordinary chair in readiness for use; Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation'of the same; Fig. 3, is an enlarged sectional view on broken line 00, a: of Fig. 2, showing the bottom of the foldin chair seat; Fig. 4, is a lan view of the foo tray and its associate parts; and Fig. 5, is an enlarged fragmentary view of a detail of my invention.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein I have illustrated a practical embodiment of my invention, 6 is the seat of a childs folding chair that is adapted to be supported at a suitable distance above the seat of an ordinary dining room chair 7, by forward legs 8, 8 and rearward legs 9, 9. The childs folding chair is provided with a hinged back 10 and with hinged right and left slde arms 11 and 12 res ectively.

The front legs 8, 8 hereln illustrated as made of a single piece of material, have their upper ends formed in the shape of a letter L and are pivotally secured to the under side of the chair seat'6, by clips 13 in such manner that they may be folded inwardly against said chair seat or may be turned to roject vertically downward as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the l. shaped upper end serving as a stopto prevent the legs 8, 8 from swinging forward and slipping oil the chair. The back legs-9, 9 are each pivotally secured to downwardly projecting ends of an L shaped bracket 14, by rivets 15, and are prevented from swinging backwardly by lugs 16 which serve to engage the brackets 14 as illustrated in Fig. 5. The bracket 14 is slidably mounted in guides 17, secured to the lowermost surface of the Specification of Letters Patent.

shall be interposed between said leg and the seat of the chair 7 to prevent marring or scratching the chair 7 when the childs folding chair is placed thereon.

The side arms 11 and 12 and the back 10v are pivotally mounted on the top surface of the seat 6 adjacent its two lateral edges and its back edge respectively in a manner similar to the mannerin which the forward legs 8, 8 are mounted on the under surface of said seat 6 and are similarly formed to prevent said side arms and back from. swinging outwardly further than may be desired.

A cross-bar 21 having a food tray 22 secured thereto has one of its ends pivotally connected with one member of a hinge 23 by a rivet 24, and the other member of the hinge 23 being secured to the forward end of the left chair arm 11, as illustrated in Fig. 4. The opposite end of the bar 21 is provided with a downwardly projecting pin 25 which has an enlarged portion or knob 26 at its lower end and is adapted to have said knob 26 thrust downwardly through'an enlargement 27 in a slotted hole 28 provided near theforward end of the right hand chair arm 12 and to be moved forward in said slotted hole 28 until the enlarged portion 26 shall engage the bottom edges of said slotted hole 28 to secure the bar 21 to the right hand side arm 12.

When in use the childs folding chair may be disposed on any ordinary chair 7, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the back legs being adjustable so that it may be made to fit ordinary chairs of varying size. The childs chair may then be removed from the chair 7, the legs folded upwardly against the lower surface of the seat 6 thus making a compact article which may be stored in a small space,

Manifestly my folding chair maybe made of any desired size or shape and various changes in theconstruction thereof may be resorted to without departin v from the spirit of my invention or sacri cing any-of its advantages. v
