"WA HSTAND.
Application filed. May 13, 1313.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS G. HILL, a citizen or the United States, residing at Can rollton, in the county of Carroll and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful .Vashstand, of which the following a specification.
The invention relates wash stands;
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of wash stands, and to provide a stand of simple and inexpensive construction, equipped with an interiorly arran ed wash basin normally concealed by siidable lid or closure adapted to be readily drawn outward and dropped at one end or side of the stand to expose the wash basin for use.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, ant pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, siz-ro and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacriflcing anyor" the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a front elevation partly in section of a wash stand, constructed in accordance with this invention and shown closed. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the upper portion of the stand, the lid or cover being open and dropped at one end of the stand. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional View, taken at right angles to Fig. 2, the lid or cover being closed.
to improvements in Fig. 1 is a plan View of the wash basin.
5 is a detail View of one of the slides. Fig. 6 is a similar view of one of the guides.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates a stand designed to be constructed of any suitable material and finished in any desired manner, and provided in its top 2 with an opening 8, located between the front and rear walls of the stand and extending inwardly from one end of the same and preferably terminating at the central portion thereof, as clearly illustrated in Fig. l of the drawing. Within the Pi g.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914. Serial No. 76?,343.
stand at the said opening and below the plane of the top 2 is mounted a wash basin 1 of any preferred construction, preferably equipped with a rectangular top portion 5, having vertical walls 6 provided at their upper edges witn outwardly extending horizontal attaching flanges 7, secured by screws or other suitable. fastening devices to the supporting bars or members of the framework of the stand. The body of the bowl or wash basin is of the usual form and is connected at the bottom with a drain or waste pipe 8. of any suitable construction through which the low of water from the bowl is controlled by a plug 9, or any other suitable means. The drain or waste pipe is designed to be provided with the ordinary water seal 10, formed by tile usual bends or in any other suitable manner.
The stand is equipped at the opening 3 ith a slidable lid or closure, composed of a relatively narrow inner section 11 and a relatively wide outer top section 12, con nected by suitable hinges 13 with the narrow section and adapted when the latter is drawn outward to the ends of the guides 14: to be swung downwardly to a depending vertical position at one end of the stand. 1V hen the lid or closure is inits open position, the relatively narrow inner section eX- tends across the top of the stand at the outer end of the opening and completes the top at that point. This movement carries the slidable lid or closure beyond the bowl and exposes the latter for use. The guides 14, which are located at the front and back of the opening 3, are preferably constructed of metal and are each composed of an attaching plate 15 and projecting parallel horizontal flanges 16, spaced apart to receive horizontal flanges 17 and 18 of the plates 19 and 20, secured to the inner and outer sections of the lid or closure and constituting slides or slid-able members. The horizontal flanges 16 of the guides and the coacting flanges of the slides or slidable members project from the upper portions of the attaching plates, which extend below the said flanges and are provided in their lower portions with perforations to receive the fastening devices for securing them to the stand and to the sections of the closure. The slides or slidable members correspond in length to the size of the inner and, outer sections of the lid or closure, and they cooperate with the guides to slidably interlock.
of the stand;
extending inwardly from one edge of the said top, a wash basin spaced from the outer end of the said opening, and a l d or closure slidably mounted in the said opening and filling the same and completing the top when in its closed position, and'composed of inner and outer sections hinged together, the outer section being adapted, when the lid or closure is drawn outwardly, to drop below the top of the stand, and the inner section being of a size to extend across the outer end of the opening beyond the wash basin and adapted to complete the top of the stand at the outer end of the opening.
2. The combination of a stand having a top and provided therein with an opening, a basin or bowl arranged interiorly of the stand and spaced from the outer end of the opening, and a lid or closure slidably mounted at the said opening and filling the same and completing the top of the stand when in its closed position, said lid or closure being composed of a relatively narrow inner section and a relatively wide outer section hinged at its lowerface to the inner section at the lower face thereof, and adapted, when the lid or closure is drawn outwardly, to swing downwardly below the top of the Copies of this patent. may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the and it is arranged in stand, the said narrow'inner section being arranged beyond the bowl and covering the space between the same and the outer end of the said opening 3. The combination of a stand having a fixed guides secured to the stand atthe opposite sides of the said opening and having projecting flanges, a slidablelid or closure filling the said, opening and completing the top of the stand when in its closed position, and composed of inner and outer sections hinged at their lower faces, the outer section being adapted to swing downwardly below the top of the stand when the lid or closure is drawn outwardly, and'the'inller section extending across, the outer end of the said opening and completing the top of the stand at that point, guides secured to the said sections at the side edges thereof and provided with projecting flanges engaging with the fiangesof the fixed guides ii the lid or closure r of the stand, the said sections and slidably interloclnng with the top to completethe top, of a the stand at that point.
being recessed at their side edges to receive the said guides and extending over and concealing the same when the lid or closure is- 5 closed. y
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. J
