WALTER E. VECKRUISE, OF LA GRANGE, ILLINOIS.
GRN-TANK.
Speeioation of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 16, 1917.
Application filed January 12, 1915. Serial No. 1,820.
To all lwhom/1f may concern:
Be it known that I, VALTER R. VECE- nnrsn, citizen of the United States, residing at La Grange, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful improvements in Grain-Tanks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tanks and more particularly to grain tanks.
One of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a water and animal proof tank which may be conveniently set up by a single operator and in which all of the sections are effectively locked together without producing any sharp angles in which the grain would be liable to become packed.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following speoiiic description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms apart of this application and in which* Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is an en larged detail horizontal sectional View.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the vertical walls of the tank, 2 the roof thereof, 3 a ventilator' covf ering the vent opening 4 in the apex' of the roof, 5 the bottom, and 6, 7, and 8 openings in the roof and vertical wall ofthe tank through which grain may be inserted, removed. and the tank cleaned, respectively. The vertical wall of the tank is constructed of a plurality of sections, each section having one marginal edge thereof provided with an angular extension 9 bent back upon itself and then bent into a substantially ll-shaped locking rib 1'0, the terminal end of which is bent inwardly into a return flange 11. The opposite marginal edge is bent into a.U-shaped locking rib 12 adapted to iit within the U-shaped locking rib 10 and lie over the angular extension 9, as shown, this extension providing a cover for the joint between the two adjoining sections as will be seen from an inspection of Fig. 3. To further reinforce the connection of the sections, angle clips or cleats 13 are secured to the sections by bolts 14, as shown.
The top 2 is constructed of a plurality of tapered sections, each of which has one side marginal edge turned up into a flange 15 adapted to be received in the Ushaped fiange 16 formed at the opposite side edge of the adjoining section. These sections terminate short of the center of the roof so as to provide the aperture l which is covered by the ventilator 8.
rThe opening 6 is closed by a cap 17, while the opening 7 is closed by a sliding gate 18. Arranged on two sides of the opening 8 are guiding strips 19 which receive the sliding door 20 which when open permits the passage of a person to the interior of the tank so that the grain which will not flow through the opening 7 may be readily removed.
The upper and lower ends of each section are provided with angle iianges 21 and 22 which are bolted to the top 2 and bottom 5, respectively. This bottom is here shown in the form of a metallic plate but may be of any suitable form or material, as is found most desirable.
1t will be noticed from the construction of the device that the tank may be readily shipped to its destination in knocked down form and readily set up where desired by one man, who can slidably engage one section with another until the tank is completed and apply the roof by joining each section in a similar manner, any suitable support being used for the first two or three wall and roof sections.
What is claimed is A tank of the class described embodying a vertical wall constructed from a plurality of sections, the marginal edge of vone section being bent upon itself to provide an angular extension, said extension terminating eXte riorly and laterally of said tank to provide a U-shaped locking rib terminating ina re turn flange, the marginal edge of the adja cent section being extended eXteriorly 'and laterally of said tank to provide a second tank and having connection With said sec- U-shaped locking rib, said last named rib tions and overlying the annular extension. 10 fitting within the 1irst mentioned rib and In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature interlocking therewith by the return flange in presence of two Witnesses.
5 of the former mentioned rib, and retaining n WALTER R. VECKRUISE.
the second mentioned rib over'the angular Witnesses: extension of the irst mentioned rib, and a OSCAR PALMER, reinforcement disposed. exteriorly of the J. T. WESTERHOLM;
Copies of this petent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner o! Yatents, Washington, D. C.
