UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS P. MOORE, 0F READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO ABRAHAM LINCOLN FRAME, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
SEWER VENT-BOX.
To all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS P. MooRn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and St-ate of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewer Vent- Boxes, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in sewer vent boxes and the object is to provide a vent box of comparatively simple construction and to the interior of which access may easily be had.
The invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical, central sectional view. F ig. 2 is a plan view of my vent box.
The numeral 1 designates the sewer pipe connection. This connection is formed with an external thread 2.
The numeral 3 designates the inner casing, and this casing is formed with a series of buttons 4 on its inner surface, which buttons are adapted to be engaged by the convolutions of the thread 2 when the member 1 is screwed into the casing 8. The member 3 is also formed with two pairs of lugs 5 near its upper end, at diametrically opposite points, and two like pairs of lugs 5a near the lower end and in vertical alinement with the upper lugs. The lower lugs are slightly longer than the upper ones.
The casing is formed at its upper end with an inwardly curved flange 6, forming a central opening 7 at the top of the casing.
The numeral 8 designates the outer casing. This is formed with a pair of internal lugs 9, each of which is adapted to enter the space between t-he upper lugs 5 of the inner casing; near the lower end of the casing 8 a second pair of like lugs 9"L is formed, which in turn are adapted to enter the spaces between the lugs 5a.
The lugs 9 and 9a are preferably formed with tapered side walls, so that they will wedge between the lugs 5 and 5a when in position as shown in Fig. 1.
The upper end of the casing 8 is formed Specification of Letters Patent.

with a flange 10 and is slightly enlarged, and in this enlarged portion I place a cover plate 11. This plate is provided with a locking tongue 12 adapted to enter an opening 13 in the wall of the casing 8, and at a point directly opposite the tongue, I provide a fastening screw 14 by means of which the plate is secured in the casing.
The cover plate is perforated, as indicated by numeral l5, and to the under side thereof, at the center, I secure a dome 16, held in position by means of a bolt 17, and this dome extends over the upper end of the inner casing 3, so that any water or soil entering the perforations in the cover plate will be shed around the inner casing and will not enter it. i
It is evident that the venting of the sewer to which my vent box is attached will be free, and that to secure access to the inside of the vent box, it will be only necessary to remove the screw 14 and the cover may be removed, together with the dome.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a vent box for sewers, the combination with a sewer pipe connection threaded externally, an inner casing formed with an inwardly lianged upper end, internal buttons arranged to engage the convolutions of the thread on the pipe connection and four pairs of diametrically opposite lugs on its outer surface, of an outer casing formed with registering lugs adapted to enter the spaces between the pairs of lugs on the inner casing, a perforated cover plate for the outer casing, said plate having a locking tongue adapted to engage the casing and means for securing the cover plate to the casing, and a dome secured to the under side of the casing adapted to cover the upper open end of the inner casing.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS P. MOORE.
