Description
J. A. HUNT. HANGER OR SUPPORTING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED MAY 17, 1913.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
awe/Wham Y/"iZQQ fl T JONATHAN A. HUNT, 0F WESTBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR- TO HUNT SPECIALTY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF \VESTBOEO, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
HANGER OB SUPPORTING DEVICE.
Application filed May 17, 1913.
T0 (ZZZ Whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN A. HUx'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vestboro, in the county of lVorecster and State of hlassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers or Supporting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a hanger or supporting device, and particularly to that class of hangers used for hanging calendars, small pictures, thermometers, etc., and which are particularly adapted to be used in rooms in which there are no picture moldings, and which may be secured to the plaster, or wooden finish in a room, hall, etc, by simply pushing the attaching pin into the wall, or by tapping it lightly with a hammer, or other suitable device.
The object of my invention is to improve upon the class of hangers referred to, and more particularly to provide a hanger having the attaching pin made separate there from, but rigidly attached thereto and made a part thereof, and not detachable therefrom when the hanger is finished and ready for use.
My invention consists in certain novel features of construction of my improved hanger, as will be hereinafter fully described.
In my improved hanger, I use a strip or plate of metal, or flat Wire, which is preferably bent at its lower end in hook shape, and at its other end preferably has two perforations therethrough, and said end is preferably bent in hook shape, so that the two perforations will be substantially opposite each other, but separated from each other, to receive the attaching brad or pin, which is insertedthrough said perforations to extend, preferably at an angle to the main. part of the hanger, and then the end, or a part of the strip or plate is bent back upon itself and over the upper end of the pin, to secure it in place, and prevent it from being detached; said bent end furnishes a surface for pushing the pin into the plaster, wood, or other wall surface, and also furnishes a surface for the impact of the hammer or other tool, used to drive the pin into the wall.
Referring to the drawing :Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a hanger embodying my improvements, and, Fig. 2 is Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Serial No. 768,305.
a central vertical longitudinal section of the hanger shown in Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawing, 1 is a strip or plate, preferably of sheet metal, or fiat wire, and preferably of uniform width throughout its length. The lower end of the.
the plate 1, and said end is in this instance.
bent downwardly in hook shape, as shown at 1. A brad or pin 2, having in this instance a head 2 thereon, is inserted through the two perforations in the plate 1, one of said perforations is preferably in a plane below the other, so that the brad or pin 2 will extend at an angle to the plate 1, as shown. After the brad or pin 2 is inserted through the perforations in the plate 1, the end, or a part of the plate 1 is bent back upon itself, or pressed rearwardly toward and onto the upper end 2 of the pin 2, as shown at 1', and acts to rigidly secure the pin 2 in the upper end of theplate 1, and
prevent said pin from being detached there be secured, and also furnishes a surface for c the contact of the hammer or other tool, to drive the pin 2 into the wall or other surface, on which the hanger is to be secured.
The advantages of my hanger or supporting device will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art. It is of very simple construction, and inexpensive to manufacture, and can be manufactured by machinery, and the brad or pin for attaching the hanger to the wall or other surface, is rigidly secured in place, and not detachable and liable to be lost, as is ordinarily the case. It will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements in hangers or supporting devices may be var1ed 1f desired, and the shape of the plate or strip 1 of the hanger may be varied if desired. Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hanger or supporting device, comprising a plate or str1p of metal, having its per end of hook shape, With perforations therethrough, and an attaching brad or pin inserted through said perforations, and the upper end of said plate bent back upon itself, to extend. over the headof said brad or pin, and secure said brad or pin to said plate and prevent it from being detached therefrom.
2. A hanger or supporting device, comprising a plate, or strip of metal having its lower end of hook shape, and having its upper end of hook shape, with perforations therethrough, and an attaching brad or pin inserted through said perforations and eX-' tending at an angle to said plate, and the upper end of said plate bent back upon itself, to extend over the head of said brad or pin, and secure said brad or pin tosaid plate, and therefrom.
