PICTRE-FRAME SUPPORT.

Be it known that I, GEORGE A. LHOMME- DIEU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pictur& Frame Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in devices for securing picture frames and the 1ike against lateral tilting While suspended from a supporting wire, and has for one of its objects the provision of a device adapted to be secured to the frame proper and to the adjacent surface of the wall.
Another object is the provision of a device which may be applied to most frames now in use without in any way a1tering the frame or detracting from its appearance.
With these and other objects in view, Which Will more fully hereinafter appear, the present invention consists in certain novel details of construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particulariy pointed out in the appended daim; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of the device may be made, within the scope of the appended claim, vvithout departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification :Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the prong in a closed position; Fig. 2 is a sectionai view showing the prong in an open position; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a modification; and, Fig. 4 is a sectional view thereof.
In the form illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 a disk 24 is shown as being bulged inwardly at its middle portion to provide a socket 25, the said socket 25 corresponding in length to approximately one half the diameter of the disk. Arranged on the opposite sides of the socket and adjacent the inner end thereof is a pin 26, and movably mounted on this pin is a spur 27 adapted to be moved outwardly and at right angles to one face of the disk or folded vvithin the socket. The disk 24 is provided with openings for the reception of brads or screws 28, and it will be evident by virtue of the bulged portion 25 that a recess Specification of Letters Patent.

must be formed in the back of the frame to receive the said bulged portion in order that the fiat part of the back of the disk may set firmly against the back of the frame. W'ith this construction it Will be evident when the frame is being moved from one part of the wall to the other the spur may be folded within the socket, whereby danger of contacting with objects Will be eliminated.
In the modified form illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, a disk 29 is shown havingabulged central portion 30, and provided on one face and on either side of the bulged portion with counter-sunks 32 and 33, the counter-sunks corresponding in depth to the bulged portien 30 and extending transverse the disk. By virtue of the counter-sunks 32 and 33 it will be evident that the portion of the disk on the outer sides of the counter-sunks Will be in a plane with the end of the bulged portion, thus permitting the bulged face of the disk to be seeurcd to the back of the frame without the necessity of forming a groove or recess therein. Arranged adjacent to the inner end of the bulgcd portion 300 is a pin 34, similar to the pin 26 and supporting a movab]e spur 35 adapted to be moved outwardly and at right angles to enter the wall and moved inwardly into the bulged portion 30 similar to the spur 27.
From the foregoing, it is evident that I have provided a device which is comparative1y simple in structure and inexpensive in manufacture, embodying few parts and these so arranged that the danger of derangement will be reduced to a minimum.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new is:
A picture frame hanger adapted to be secured t0 a picture frame to support the same against a wall consisting of a disk formed of sheet metal and provided with opposite offset portions stamped out of said disk and forming a recess, and a prong member pivoted at one end to the ofi"set portions and adapted to lie fiat in the recess in an inoperative position.
