BANDIEAU.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Application filed January 16, 1914. Serial No. 812,525.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARRIE M. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raymond, in the county of Pacific and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bandeaux, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bandeaux, and has for its primary object to provide relatively adjustable members or sections which conform'to the curvature on the interior of the hat and are engaged therewith in a novel manner by eiiicient securing elements the latter serving the dual purpose of securing the component parts of each of the sections together and at the same time engaging each section with a hat.
Another object of this invention is the peculiar formation of each of the sections which are so arranged and are formed of such a material as tobe durable, simple and efficient, and at the same time may be readily attached to or detached from the hat at the option of the wearer, the sections being entirely independent of each other and being relatively adjustable as previously pointed out so as to adapt the same for use in connection with various interior diameters.
Other objects as well as the nature, characteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan view of the two sections of my improved bandeau; Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 2-,-2 of Fig. 1 looking in a direction of the arrows; Fig. 3 is a cross sectional View taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1 and lookingin the direction of the arrows; and Fig. 4 is an elevational view of one of the fastening means used in the present invention.
In the drawings wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of this invention a pair of sections 5 and 6 are provided which are engaged with the front and rear of the hat on the interior thereof, each of the sections comprising a pair of identical plates 7 and 8 which are of a semicircular configuration and have the bodies thereof arouated so as to conform to the contour of the hat and the head of the wearer. Each of the semicircular plates 7 and 8 have portions thereof cut out so as to provide substantially crescent shaped openings 9 as shown to advantage in Fig. 1. By providing each of the plates 7 and 8 with the crescent shaped openings 9 it is seen that integral marginal strips are provided which are engaged with the marginal edges of a wire gauze 10 the latter being of a semicircular configuration and engaged between the ates 7 and S.
In order to clamp the gauze 10 between the plates 7 and 8 and to retain them in a clamped position, I have provided suitable fastening means as indicated at 11 and 12 and shown to advantage in Figs. 3 and 4. respectively. 11. comprises a single strand of wire which has the opposite ends thereof turned at right angles to the body and into parallelism with each other so as to provide a substantially U-shaped structure the vertex of each being engaged with the lower of the plates while the arms thereof extend through the plates and at right angles thereto whereby to positively clamp the plates together and at the same time engage the sections with the hat when the same are engaged with the head. Each of the fa stoning elements 12 comprises a member similar to that of the fastener 11 with the exception, that the vertex of the U is provided with a depressed portion intermediate its ends as indicated at 13, which when in place on the sections engages with the upper of the plates so as to retain the latter in fixed or rigid engagement with the gauze 10. Upon reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings, it will be seen that one of the fastening elements 12 is engaged with the section 5 in the present invention while two of the same are engaged with the section 6, it being necessary to engage at least one of these with each section in order to prevent the accidental displacement of the plates 7 and S. It will likewise be noted that the arms of the fastening elements 12 which are engaged with the sections 6 are turned at right angles to the arms of the section 5 so as to insure the positive retention of the sections with the hat and at the same time preventing the fasteners from interfering with the slidable engagement of the opposite ends of the sections 5 and 6 together should it be found necessary to do so when engaging the same with a hat of a very small interior diameter. Upon reduction to practice it is therefore obvious that Each of the fastening means the sections 5 and 6 will be engaged on the interior of the head and secured thereto through the medium of the securing elements 11 and 12, each of the latter comprisinga single strand of wire which is preferably made of an inelastic metal so as to allow the same to be freely bent into engagement with the hat for facilitating the engaging of the same therewith. It is of course understood that the sections 7 and 8 may be readily disengaged by removing the fastening elements 11 and 12 in an obvious manner.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A bandeau including a pair of semicircular sections each of which comprises a pair of identical semicircular plates having a portlon of each removed to provide a crescent shaped opening, means mounted between said plates, and means securing said plates together for clamping said means therebetween and adapted to engage said sections with a hat.
2. A bandeau comprising a pair of relatively adjustable sections each comprising a pair of semicircular plates having a portion "thereof car out to provide crescent shaped openings, a perforated element mounted between said 'platesand means carried said plates for engaging said elements therewith and engaging said sections with a hat. I
3. A bandeau including a pair of sections each of which comprises a pair of plates, a perforated element mounted between said plates and means carried bysaid plates for engaging the same, with said element com: prisinga strand of wire an intermediate portionofwhich is looped through both of said plates and the opposite ends thereof engaged with a hat for retaining said sections in engagement therewith.
' In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
