ADJUSTABLE BED-TABLE.
Application filed July 10, 1913.
ment to beds and has for an object to provide a table which may be swung over the bed and adjusted vertically to be within convenient reach of the patient, or may be dropped and swung under the bed to be out of the way when not in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple table of this character which is formed of a few parts that may be constructed at a minimum expense and will not easily get out of order.
With the above objects in View the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully describedaand claimed, it being understood that variousmodifications may be made in the minor details ofconstruction within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating this invention: Figure l is a front elevation showing the table attached to a bed and with the parts of the table in swung outward position. Fig. 2 is a plan View showing the parts of the table in position above the bed. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 33 Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view on the line M Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts, 10 designates one of the posts of the head of a bed 11.
In carrying out my invention I provide a rod 12 which extends vertically along the post 10 and is equipped at the ends with right angular. extensions 13 that carry clamps 14 which are adjustably secured by means of set screws 15 to any desired position vertically on the post 10. A rod 16 is provided Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 24, 1914. Serial No. 778,319.
at one end with a sleeve 17 which is adjustably secured on the rod 12 by means of a set screw 18. The rod 16 is equipped at the free end with a head 19.
The table 20 is formed of any desired material and is provided with a raised edge 21 to prevent the articles from sliding off from the table. An arm 22 is secured to the center of one longitudinal edge of the table and is equipped with a sleeve 28 that is adjust ably secured to the rod 16 by means of a set screw 24:. It is now evident that by loosenmg the set screw 18 the rod 16 may be swung on the rod 12 as a vertical pivot and may be also raised or lowered on the rod 12. Also that by loosening the set screw 24 the table 20 may be rocked upon the rod 16 as a horizontal pivot and may be also slid longitudinally of the rod 16.
In use the table 20 is rocked outwardly to a horizontal plane and then the rod 16 is rocked inwardly over the bed, the set screw 18 being then tightened to hold the table in operative position, it being understood that before the setscrew is tightened that the table is adjusted vertically to suit the convenience of the patient. When not in use the rod 16 may be rocked outwardly against the wall of a room and the table 20 rocked downwardly against the wall, the parts being shown in this positionin Fig. 1. Or if desired, the rod 16 may be lowered and rocked underneath the bed to dispose the table entirely out of the way.
From the above description it will be seen.
that I have provided an extremelysimple device of the class described which may be formed from a few inexpensive parts that are strongand durable and will not easily get out of order.
What is claimed, is
The combination with a bed provided with a post and a side rail; of a bracket adjustably attached to said post above said side rail, a second bracket attached to said post below said side rail, a bar extending parallel to said post and attached to said brackets, a sleeve slidably and rotatably mounted on said bar, means to lock said sleeve in adjusted position on said bar, a bar extending from said sleeve radially of the first men- In testimony whereof, I afiixiny signationed bar, a second sleeve slidably and r0- ture, in the presence of two witnesses. tatably mounted on the second bar, means to lock said second sleeve in adjusted posi- FRANCES W.
