HAME AND TRACE CONNECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented NOV. 24,1914.
Application filed June 5, 1914. Serial No. 843,167.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that: I, WILLIAM A.
Sonnnio'nnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement inflame and Trace Connectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this specification, in which a Figure 1 is a side View showing my improved hame and trace connector applied to a portion of a bolt hame; and Fig. 2 is a section on the line II-II of Fig. 1.
My invention has relation to heme and trace connectors for harness, and is designed to provide a simple and efficient form of connector which gives a free, universal connection between the trace and hame; which can be readily constructed and assembled and in which the parts are prevented from binding when assembled.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 2 designates a portion of a bolt hame having the bolts 3 formed with the usual projecting portions 4, in which the vertical pivot bolt 5 for the connector is seated and secured.
6 designates a portion of a trace whose end is attached in the usual manner to the D-member 7.
8 designates a metallic clip formed from a single piece of metal bent over upon itself to form the parallel inner and outer 10 of the D-member has a loose bearingon:
a bushing 13, through which extends the rivet 14, which connects the D-member to the clip. One of the jaws 9 has an opening.
large enough to receive the bushing13;
but the bushing terminates at its other end at the inner face of the other jaw 9, the
opening in which is only large enough to re- 1 ceive the rivet 14. When the end portion 15 ofthe rivet is headed, the heading action is taken by the end of the bushing. This prevents any tendency to bind the two jaws against the eye, and thus prevent freedom of its movement. It also tightens the rivet in the bushing so that the bearing of the eye 10 of the D-member is transferred to the outer surface of the bushing. Thispermits the bushing to be made of relatively hard metal, while the rivet may be made of soft metal. This manner of seating the bushingalso prevents the jaws 9 from being clamped together by the riveting su'liiciently to bind the barrel or roller 12. The latter is thus perfectly free to turn in the barrel portion of the clip. The form of this barrel portion is such as to prevent any back and forth movement of the clip relatively to the bolt 5.
The above described construction is an exceedingly simple and convenient one, and forms an admirable device for the purpose.
I claim:
1. A hame and trace connector comprising a clip having an approximately cylin-. drioal barrel portion, a sleeve or roller seated and confined within said barrel portion, a bolt extending through the sleeve or roller and connectingthe clip to the hame, said clip having parallel jaw members, a D-member having an eye extending between the jaw members, and a pivot connection.
between the D-member and the clip, said pivot connection having stop means for preventingbinding of said jaws on either the D-membcr or said barrel portion substantially as described.
2. A hame and trace connection comprisprojecting substantially parallel jaw portions, a sleeve or roller seated and con fined within said barrel portion, a D-member havingan eye extending between. said mg a clip shaped to form an approximately cylindrical vertical barrel portion with.
jaw portions a bushing extending through the clip upon the sleeve or roller, substan- 10 one of the jaw portions and through said tially as described.
eye and terminating at its other end inside In testimony whereof, I have hereunto of the other jaw member, and a rivet eX- set my hand. tending through said bushing and both jaw members, said bushing forming a bearing WILLIAM SCHLEIOHER' for the eye of the D-member and also acting Witnesses:
to prevent binding of the jaw portions on FRED J. Animus,
the D-member and of the barrel portion of DANZIE W. GARRINGToN.
