UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. HAGMAN, OF .ARGUSVILLE, NORTH DAKOTA.
'HAME-CLIP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY WV. IIAGMAN,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 24, 1909.
a farmer, citizen of the United States, rel siding at Argusville, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hame- Clips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hame clips, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a hame clip which can be readily connected to and disconnected from a hame Awithout the use of special tools.
Another object of the invention is to provide a hame clip for the attachment of a hame tug, said clip having a hinged mem- Der connected thereto so that .it may be readily slipped over the hame for attachment thereto when the old hame clip has been broken or injured.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a hame clip for metal haines which can be readily connected to the hame by means of a screw driver and which can be disconnected from the hame and applied to another hame whenever desired.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a hame having my improved clip connected thereto, said hame being placed in the hame crease of a collar section, the latter being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation on an enlarged scale of the clip with a section of the hame shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates an ordinary metal hame section, and 2 is the hame clip provided with a double keyhole slot 3 in the outer end thereof for the connection of an ordinary hame tug. A semi-circular recess 1 is formed in the hame clip to surround an ordinary hame. In order to render the clip readily attachable to and detachable from the hame iron I provide a hinge member 5 pivoted upon the pin 6 in front of the hame, at a suitable Patented Jul)T 19, 1910.
Serial No. 509,261.
distance from the extremity of the recess 4c so that the end portion of the clip 2 will constitute a hame-engaging hook 6, said hinge member having an extended lug 7 provided with a countersunk opening 8 therein for the head of a screw 10, said screw passing through the lug 7 and through the clip. The hinge member 5 is provided with an oii'set portion 9 adjacent to the lug 7 forming a shoulder that bears against or abuts upon the body of the clip interiorly of the recess 4, thus providing a strong and very durable construction. A recess 11 is formed on the underside of the clip, and a nut 12 is connected to the screw 10 and seated in said recess.
Then an ordinary hame clip has been broken or injured and it is desired to secure my hame clip to the hame, the old clip is removed, and by swinging outward the hinge portion 5 of my clip, the hame 1 can be placed in the recess 4. By means of an ordinary screw driver the screw 10 can be tightened up with the nut 12 seated in the recess 11.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that my invention provides means for readily connecting a hame clip to a hame iron. Usually when the hame clip is broken, the hame section is entirely worthless. By means of my invention the hame clip is removed and the hame iron saved.
I claim z- A hame clip comprising a body portion having a recess and a terminal hame-engaging hook, and a hinge member pivotally connected with said hook and combining with the recessed portion to form an approximately semi -circular hame engaging opening, said hinge member being provided with a bolt-receiving lug and with an offset portion interiorly engaging the wall of the recess.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY W. HAGMAN.
