Description

Patented Nov. 17, 1914.
WITNESSES 972M ATTORNEY HE NORRIS PETERS 60., PHOTO-LITHDH WASHING rON. D. c,
UNITED STATES PATENT curios.
EFFINGHAM L. POLLARD, OF DOBBS FERRY, NEW YORK.
PASTE-DISTRIBUTEB.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EFFINGHAM L. POL- LARD, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the town of Dobbs Ferry, county of VVestchester, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paste-Distributers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a means for distributing any pasty substance from a central reservoir or supply chamber to a greater or less number of outlets where it is to be used.
Many excellent lubricants are in paste form and it is often desirable to lubricate by means of a paste in places where an ordinary paste or grease cup cannot be conveniently used, therefore I have designed a means for furnishing through a small tube the desirable quantity of paste, and I have devised a means for controlling the amount ofthe supply from a position close to the reservoir.
Another use for my system of distribution is in supplying soap for use in public lavatories. A supply of the pasty soap is retained in the reservoir under pressure, and a tube leading from the reservoir and having an outlet adjacent to each of the hand bowls is continually subjected to-the pressure of the reservoir. A peculiarly constructedvalve is connected to the tube and supplies an outlet for the soap at each of the basins. In this mannerI construct a highly satisfactory and perfectly sanitary soap receptacle, particularly desirable for use in hotels, theaters, sleeping cars and in any other place where a large number of people make use of the washing facilities.
The following is what I consider the best means of carrying out this invention.
The accompanying drawings form a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a View in elevation, it shows the complete system in operation as a soap retainer. The remaining views are on a larger scale. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section, through the reservoir and one of the valves to be used in conjunction therewith. Fig. 3 shows two of the nozzles that may be used on the discharge nipple of the valve.
Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in all the figures where they appear.
One of the principal features of my invention is the reservoir or container. It is v Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N 17 1914 Application filed July 1, 1911.

into this that the soap or grease in the form of plastic or viscos mass 1s placed.
The contalner may be constructed of sheet metal and I prefer that if so made, it shall later, and surrounding the top edge of the member 1. I have produced a screw-thread 4:, for the reception of a closing cap 5. The closing cap 5 is also provided with screwthreads and is constructed to fit snugly upon the screw-thread 4. The cap 5 is also cupped shape though cupped in the direction opposite to the member 1. A central perforation is produced in the cap 5 and a stuffing-box is screw-threaded into the central perforation. This stuffing-box 6 serves a double function, as a water tight.
passage for a piston rod 7, and as an adjusting means for a cone shaped spring 8, both of which will be described later. A nipple or nozzle 9, passes through the cap 5. This nipple is the pressure inlet and it is intended to be connected to a convenient source to water supply under pressure. If the pressure of the water is found to be too great, a regulating or reducing valve may be inserted into the water pressure line, though if such a valve be inserted I prefer that it be quite near the container as it may be found desirable to vary the pressure upon the contents of the container from time to time.
WVithin the container a piston 10 operates. This piston may be of any desirable construction, though I have constructed it of a solid block of a diameter to fit freely within the container. The piston rod 7 screwthreaded into a centrally disposed perforation in the piston 10 and passing through the stuffing box 6, retains the piston in alinement. Near the top of the piston, I have produced a groove 11, and into this groove 1 insert a suitable packing ring 12. The lower end of the piston 10, I turn to slightly smaller diameter than the upper ti l end as is shown at i and I place a cupleather l-tover this smaller part and secure it then by means of a screw and 'asher 16. It will he seen. from this construction a that upon renaming); the cap 5, the piston 10 and the parts thereof are also removed, the container can then he nearly filled \l'llll pasty soap or ease and the tap and piston returnml to position. Modifications may he made within the scope of the appended claims without de parting from the principle or sacrificing the advantages of this invention.
Living carefully and fully described my in rention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a laratory of a soap container secured adjacent thereto, a spring Within said container means for connecting a water supply to said soap container, and a suni-cylinorical piston adapted to he operated by said Water supply and said prii :tor dischai 1g the soap from Eagles of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
