HERBERT J.y WOOD, 0F MOUNT CLEMNS, MICHIGAN.
United States, residing at Mount Clemens, in the ,county of Macomb l and State ofMichigan, have invented a new and useful Washstand, of which the` following is aspeciication.
'this invention relates to combined washstands and reservoirs, andits object is to provide a device of .this character which shall be pleasing in appearance, which can and which shall not be liable to get out of order. i
This invention consists, in combination with a novel pedestal, of a bowl mounted on the upper end thereof, a reservoir surrounding the bowl and having a removable cover extending around the bowl, and novel means for permitting water to ow from the reservoir to the bowl.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the wash-stand with the front of the pedestal swung back to permit removal of the waste water receptacle. Fig. 2 is a vertical central sectiontalten at right angles to the view in Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters refer to like parts in both views.
The wash-stand shown in the drawing is preferably made of castiron and sheet steel, properly enameled and consists of a top or cover, a reservoir, a bowha pedestal to support the bowl, a receptacle within the pedestal, means connecting the reservoir, bowl and pedestal, and means controlling the flow of water from the reservoir to the bowl. The pedestal is formed of a base ring 1, preferably of cast-iron, a tapering bodv p0rtion 2 mounted on the base, and a door 3 hinged to the part 2 to permit the receptacle or pail 4 for the waste water to be removed and replaced.' rThe base 1 is preferably formed with a radial flange 5 on which the pail 4 may rest. y
The reservoir is pressed or otherwise formed from sheet metal with a bottom 7 and walls 8. The top 9 has a down-turned outer fiange 10 and an inner flange 12 which extends down into the bowl 13. y It may be connected to the rear wall of the reservoir by means of hinges 14. and be provided with an openingr 15 to permit the operating button 1G of the valve to pass.
The howl mav be formed with a circumferentialr shoulder 17, properly drilled and threaded lto receive screws 18 `which pass i Specification of Letters Patent. Application fiiefiiitay 22, 1915.

in the `outwardly turned flange 19 of the connector 20tlirough holes in the bottom 7 of the reservoir, and through holes in the packing ring 22, y various parts together. The cylindrical flange 23 on tli end of the pedestal. 'lhe usual plug 24C may be secured to a staple 25 by means of a chain 26.
The device for controlling the flow of water to the bowl is very simple. A threaded boss 27 on the rounded bottom of the bowlr 13 receivesy the nipple 28 which screws ug 30 having a flange 32 ring 33 against the bot- This plug has holes 3-1 to permit the contents of the reservoir to flow into the T 29, and a central hole for the stem 35, to whose upper end the knob or button 16 is secured. A disk 37 of any presses the packing tom 7 and the T to` hold these l proper material is normally held against the bottom of the plug thus covers the lower ends of the holes 34. The lower end of the stem 35 is guided in the hole 39 in the plug 40, which also supports the spring 33. y f
The details of construction of this device can all be changed without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in `the claims. Thus any proper means may be connected yto the outlet opening of the bowl to carry off the waste water.
I claim 1. In a wash-stand, the combination of a pedestal having a flaring top ending in a radial flange, a reservoir having a flat botby the spring 38 and tom resting on said radial flange and proof the reservoir and having a fiange resting pn theedge of said bottom, said bowl having inlet and outlet openings,
attached to the bottom of the reservoir and said inlet opening of the bowl, a valve t0 control the How of water through said connection, and means to close the outlet `opening. c
2. In a wash-stand, the combination of a pedestal and a bowl having an inlet opena central outlet opening,
ing a flat bottom, a cover for the reservoir, means to support the bowl and to forma watertight Joint between the bowl and resera connection y voir-bottom, a valve-body securedto, the,
through the cover and having a knob at itsV means connecting the valveo upper end, and body to the inlet opening in the bowl.
3. In a wash-standJrthe combination of a bowl having an inlet opening, a reservoir surrounding the bowl and having a lat bottom, a cover Jfor the reservoir, a T mounted just below the bottom, a' pipe connecting one branch of the T to :the inlet opening of' they bowl,V a yplug screwing into la second branch of the T anclvthrough an opening in Copies ot'this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by Washington, D. C.
thebottoin of the reservoir and .formed with 15 a flange to secure the T tov said bottom and with a plurality olf-holes,y at least one being adapted to permit water to flow into the T, a yvalve stem mounted in one of said holes and extending up above the cover, a valve on the stem below the plug to close the holes therein, a spring to hold the valve against said plug and mounted within said T, and
a plug screwed into the third branch of the T to support said spring.
In testimony whereof If have signed thisl specification,
' HERBERT J'. WOOD.
