UNITED STA'IlES PATENT OFFICE.
GIOVANNI CORNACCHIA, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BARBERS WASHBASIN.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914.
Application filed. March 21, 1914. Serial No. 326,341).
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that I, GIOVANNI ConNAo- OHIA, citizen of the United States, and resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barbers WVashba'sins, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in barbers wash-basins, arranged for individual connection to the several furnishings, chairs, or stations of a barber shop; and the object is to provide a sanitary basin having hot and cold water supply and drain connections, and also includes means for mounting the basin thus connected for its projection into working position, and for its withdrawal when out of use into a safe and unobstructive location. A further object includes the provision of a shaving-brush chamber in connection with the basin, whereby the use of individual shaving cups with their attending unsanitary condition is obviated. And the invention furthermore comprehends certain details of construction hereinafter set forth.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and whereinv like characters of reference are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a ground plan of a barbers basin embodying the present invention and shown in connection with a portion of the furniture; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, shown partially in section; and Fig. 3 is a shampooing attachment arranged for connection to the water supply of the basin.
In the drawings, numeral 1 designates ashelf or top, covering the usual foot-space 2, arranged between the cabinets comprising the furnitureof an ordinary barber shop. Supported upon the floor within the footspace and adjacent the wall 3 of one of the cabinets, is a vertically-extending support or standard 4, arranged for hingedly carrying the wash-basin 5, the latter having a projecting integral socket 6, which engages the upper end of the standard. The bowl or wash-basin 5 is provided with a drain nozzle 7, having the usual detachable fitting 8, fitted at its upper end with the closure plug 9 and at its lower end with the flexible drain pipe 10, leading to the waste pipe 11. Integrally formed with the bowl is a shavingbrush chamber 12, through the wall of which, in spaced relation with the floor thereof, extends a drain passage 13 leading into the bowl.
Supported upon the bowl is a double valve fitting 14:, having the discharge nozzle 15, the valves 16 and the supporting flanges 17 for connection to the bowl, these latter flanges being provided with downwardlyprojecting nozzles, communicating with the valves and connected to the flexible supply pipes 18, leading from convenient hot and cold water mains 19. By means of the valves 16, either hot or cold water may be drawn from the discharge 15, or the temperature of the water may be regulated by the valves to suit requirements. In the shaving operation the water is slowly admitted to the chamber 12 to provide the necessary moisture for the brush and for affording means for the manipulation of the latter both for forming the required lather and for finally cleansing the same, the spaced relation of the drain passage 13 above the floor of the chamber retaining a suitable quantity of water in the latter for the required work. For the final cleansing of the brush and the chamber, the flow of water is continued and readily controlled by the valves to effect a complete sanitary condition of the several parts. For the shampooing operation a flexible hose 20 is provided, having at one end a spraying attachment 21, and at its opposite end an elbow connection 22, fitted with a coupling 23, detachably engaging the screw-threaded end of the discharge nozzle 15.
While the standard or support 4 is herein shown as carried upon the floor of the room, it will be obvious that the same may be fixed to a convenient side wall if required, and in a similar manner be arranged to hingedly support the basin and its connected flexible pipes. As thus arranged it will be evident that the connected basin may be readily adjusted into working position, and when not required for use may be conveniently swung out of the way into a protected position within the foot-space 2, as indicated in the dotted lines.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A barbers wash-basin comprising a main bowl, a shaving-brush chamber integrally 110 formed within said bowl, a drain-passage extending through the wall of said chamber in spaced relation With the floor thereof and Signed at New York in the county of leading into saidbowl, a projecting socket New York and State of New York this 17th 10 integrally fodrmed on said bowl, a fixed supday of March A. D. 191%. port engage by said socket for the pivotal 5 movement of the bowl, a flexible drain pipe. GIOVANNI OORNACCHIA' and flexible Water-supply pipes connected to Witnesses: said bowl, and valves fixed upon said bowl CHAS. WV. LA RUE, and controlling said Water-supply pipes. VALTER H. HUSTED.
