-a wash basin which can be used for the various purposes required.
@A :further object 'of my invention is to provide the. chair occuped'bythe barber withl means' vwhereby the chair'for seat can be adjustablyv ,positioned longitudinally or can be pivoted as required.
A further objectof my invention is to provide means for allowing swinging of the wash basin to any desired position.
A further object of myV invention is to provide 'an adjustable head rest in the barber chair itself, vwhich head rest normally is positioned within the confines ofthe backrest of the chair.
A further object of my .invention is toprcvide an air blowing arrangement which can work in cooperationwith thehydraulic arrangement .for raisingthe'barber chair. A l
, 'A further objectV of my invention is to provide the foregoing objects in a simple construction.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my olevice, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a plan View of the unit,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the unit,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along the lines 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a detail of arrangement,
Figure 5 is a sectional View taken along the lines 5-5 of Figurel, and
Figure-6 is a forward view of Figure 5 and the head rest in an elevated position.
My invention contemplates the provision of a complete tonsorial unit wherein the barber himself can be seated while working upon the customer, and whereby he can also readily adjust himself to any position required, and to further provide means whereby a wash basin can be swung to the necessary position when the back of the barber chair is tilted downwardly, all of these means making it less tiring and more convenient for the barber.
I have used the character I0 to designate the base of the unit which is preferably made in a single piece, and attached t0 the base l0 iS the a portion of the hydraulic:
r1 claim. (c1. 155-1) f,
n cylinderv I I in which is' placed thephydraulic piston or plunger seat I3 of the barber chair, having the armrests I4, and the back I5. The member I15is linked to the member .I4 by means of the links T6, and the' arms lllinclude the lpivotally attached'memibers Il attached thereto -which merge intothe forwardly extending .rods IB which are attached to the'foot rest I9, 'with the rod' 2li-'of the usual 'construction 'being ADrovi'dedto shift` the entire arrangement so that downwardly `in the ldirec'tionof the arrow 2-Al. The backrest 'l5 includes 'a'cavity at 2-2 or la out out portion in which is normally seated a head rest'member '.23 which is attachedto a rod 24 having the serrated `teeth-25 for engagement with vthespring .urged rod '26. By virtue of :this arrangementthe rod' 26 can 'be-pulled outwardly and the head rest'23 can be raised )to any desired position; such `as isshown in Figure `t. thereby providing `an arrangement whereby :the head rest normally is flush with the back Ailes't I5.' The plunger I-2is raised bymeans of a supply of oil 21 (see Figure 4) whichoil communicates at 28 with a suitable iurthercylindrical portion, with a compressed air line 29 communicating with the portion 28 which line is regulated by means of the valve 30.
Manipulation of the valve 30 will allow compressed air to enter into the hydraulicy arrangement and will raise the plunger I2 and the entire barber chair, release of the valve 3B allowing the air to dissipate through a proper port whereby the chair will gravitate downwardly.
A further air line in the form of a flexible lengthened rubber tube 3l is provided which communicates with the same source as the further air line, such source which can be an air pressure tank etc., the tube 3I communicating with a nozzle 32 having a control valve handle 33, this unit supplying means for blowing air under pressure around the'customers neck etc., for removing excess hair and the like.
Attached at 34 to the base IIJ is a vertical'post 35 which is attached to alengthened track 35 having a vertical T-shaped channel portion 31, and received in the channel portion 3l is a similarly shaped member 33 which is attached to a plate 39. The plate 39 includes an opening at 40 in which is placed the vertical pin 4I which is attached to a plate 42 which plate 42 is attached to the seat 43, the seat 43 being slightly to one side of the right as shown in Figure l, the pin at 4I thereby allowing the seat to pivot in any direc- I2 upon which is secured'the tion. The track 37 also permits the seat to be moved forwardly or rearwardly for the necessary adjustment corresponding to the needs of the barber.
Attached at 44 to the base I0 is a hollow upright tube 45 through which tube passes a hot water supply pipe 46 and a cold water supply pipe 41 which pipes pass outwardly through the walls of the tube 45 at 48 where they communicate with the flexible rubber tubes 45 which are looped as shown, the tubes 49 passing upwardly and communicating -with the faucet valves 50 which control the water supply through the faucets I, this construction thereby providing means for supplying hot and cold water as required;`
Attached to the vertical tube or pipe 45 is a cylindrical collar bearing member 53 which bearing member receives the upper end of the pipe 45, and attached to the bearing member 53 is an arm 54 to which arm is secured at 55 the wash basin 55. Communicating with the wash basin 55 at 51 is the fiexible drain pipe 58 which communicateswith the further drain connection 59, the drain connection 59 also passing within the pipe 45. It will be seen from this construction that the wash basin can be swungabout the pipe 45 as a center in any direction, and in the direction of the arrow 60 when it is desired to wash the .hair of the customer and the like, the positioning of the basin in this manner being made after the back rest I5 is tilted downwardly, which will place the rear of the head of the customer and the basin in alignment.
It will now be seen that the customer can be placed in any desired position by pivoting the chair about the plunger I2 in the usual manner, or 4by tilting the back I5 downwardly. It will be seen further that the wash basin is ready for use and directly adjacent to the barber rendering it convenient and useful for this purpose,
and it will be seen further that the barber himself can swing the chair to any desired position andmove it longitudinally to correspond to the position of the customer.
52 upon which rests anfannular` For instance when the back I5 cf the chair is swung downwardly the seat 43 can be moved rearwardly, and .whenv the barber chair itself is pivoted toward the wash basin, the barber can rotate his chair to the necessary position.
In the above described manner therefore, any variety of positions cany be secured consistent with the type of work which is to be done whether the hair is to be cut, washed, etc. vIt will be understood furthermore that if desired the usual type of hydraulic raising arrangement can be employed by using a small hand-operated pump.
It will now be seen that I have provided the advantages mentioned in the objects'of my in-V vention with ent.
Somechanges may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention without departing rfrom the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention further advantages readily apparto cover Yby my claim any` modied forms of structure or use ofmechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope. I claim as my invention: l A barber unit comprising a base, a raisable barber chair attached to said base, an auxiliary chair, a support attached to said base,v said sup.- port having a lengthened track, a block including an extending portion received in said track, said auxiliary chair being pivotally mounted on said block and said auxiliary chair being positioned rearwardly of said barber chair.
