Description

in'ted mes @sind @inline EGBERT ieg-HILL, or GRAND RAPIDS, Mic-Hierin.
Letters Patent No. 1'11,646,dated February 7, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS.
The Schedule geferred to in these vLetters Patent and making part f the same.
To all whom it 'may concern Be it known that I, EGBERT B. HILL, of the city of GrandRapids, county of Kent aud State of Michigan, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and sufficientclescription of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and the same is made a part of this specification.
In the drawing- The figure is a perspective view of an .inverted spring bedbottom constructed in accordance with my invention.
FF represent the upper frame-work of the hedhottoni, constructed in the ordinary manner.
S S S represent the ordinary coiled or spiral spring.
G G are slats or strips of wood running lengthwise of the. hedbottom, and to-which arc attached the cross- 'slats AA A, as shown in the figure.
The frame-work F F is covered with canvas, cloth, or other suitable material, rest-ing upon :inet-work of cords, inthe samemanner as the ordinary spiral-spring bottom.
lhe part F Fis held in its place by means of four metallic brace-springs. Two of these brace-springs are shown in the drawing hy letters B and B'.
The spring may be constructed oi' iron, steel, or any suitable material.
It is attached to the part Oat some distance from the end ofthe same by means of two screws or in any suitable manuel'. It is bent so as to pass over the end ofthe part C and upward, fastening in two places to the frame F F, the upper ends of the spring braces being forked, as shown by B B, in order to hold the part F F more securely in its proper position. The forked spring:r brace, being attached only at (l l and o c, acts both as a brace and a spring, the amount oi' the spring depending upon 4'the elasticity of the parts B'B, Soc.
I am aware that the spiral-spring bed-bottom is not new, with the exception of the spring braces, and make no claiin to the same; but
\Vhat I do claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The forked metallic spring brace B B, in combination witlithe upper frame l F and part-s C 0,01' their' equivalent, when constructed and arranged substantially asfand for the purposes' herein s et forth.
In u'f-itness that I claim the above I "have hereunto subscribed lnynanie. this 29th day of November, A. D. 1870.
EGBERT B. HILL.
