STOCKING.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it kno vn that I, ELBERT H. BEERS,3. citizen oi the United States, residing et Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useli'ul improvements in Stockings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stockings, and has for its primary object the provision of means whereby the same may be adjusted to the wearer expeditiously and supported in place Without necessitating the provision of :1 leg einbraeing garter or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of astocking constructed of relatively elastic fabric slit at a suitable point so as to provide separable sides that are adapted to be adjusted to overlap one another to hold the upper portion of the stocking completely closed around the leg.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a stocking slit vertically in a por- Lion of its length and preferably near its upper end and at one side only and provided resoectivelv at the sides of the slit portion with mating fastening devices engageable with one anotl'ier to hold the slit portion properly closed end the stocking adjusted to embrace the leg as necessary to a proper suspension of the stocking.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a stocking capable of ad justment around the and provided with means for holding the stocking operatively adjusted, and further the provision of a foldahle cufi' formed at the upper end of the stocking and adapted to be folded so as to entirely conceal the adjustable portio thereof and the holding inc-ans.
In the accon'ipanying drawings r-Figure 1 is a side *iew of a portion of a stocking constructed. in accordance with my invention and. illustrating the coil in an extended position; is similar view, showing the cuff folded to conceal the tasteuings; Fig. is a vertical section through the up per portion or" the stocking, showing the cult folded over the fastenings.
The stocking 1 shown in the drawing is preferably formed of relatively elastic niaterial-such as silk or the like reinforced at its upper end by folding the material on itself in the usual manner. The stocking Specification of Letters Fatent.
