RUBBER, COL AR.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, TAKnBn Hess, a citizen of Japan, residing in the city and county ofSan Francisco and State of California,
have invented anew anduseful Improvement in a Rubber Collar,'of'whichthe fol lowing is a specification; 1
My invention relates to soft rubber collars of the fold-down type wherein the thickness of material is reduced along the line of told.
The prime object of my invention is to provide an. improved collar of soft elastic material of waterproof character.
Another object is to provide an improved soft collar of the type described, arranged to reduce the thickness of material along a fold.
Another object is to provide a collar of the type described having overlapping fastening tabs beveled to reduce the thickness of the collar at the throat. V
I accomplish these and other objects by means of the device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present specificatlon wherein like characters of reference are used to designate simllar parts throughout said specification and drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 is a view of the inner side of my improved turn-down collar in unfolded position.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of my improved collar in turned down or folded position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 2, the section bein taken along a plane disclosing the inter folded fastening tab.
Fig. 4: is a broken plan View of the front portion of my improved collar.
Referring to the drawings my invention is seen to reside in the specific construction therein disclosed, the numeral 1 being used to designate in general a collar formed from an outer ply 2 of soft flexible rubber or the like and an inner ply 3 of similar material cemented or otherwise permanently secured thereto, said inner ply 3 being in two portions to form a turn-down portion 4 and a neck band 6. The inner ply portions meet along the line of fold 7 and the meeting edges 8 are beveled to reduce the thickness of material along the fold 7.
Fastening tabs 9 are formed upon the ends of the neck band 6 and arranged to overlap when the collar is fastened around the neck of a wearer, said tabs 9 being provided with beveled edges 11 along the top thereof, The edges 11 are beveled upon opposite sidesof the neck band 6 thereby causing the beveled and permitting the portion 4 to be folded.
thereover without causing .abulge;
The beve led edges-8 are provided to prevent unduet-hicknessof the collar at the foldthereby giving a neater appearance to the collar and affording greater comfort to the wearer. When folded, the beveled edges lie adjacent as disclosed in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the outer ply 2 folding neatly thereover without stress 'on the material and Without causing excessive outward flare such as Specification'of Letters Patent. would occur when the inner ply portions I meet with blunt edges along the line of fold 7.
Small apertures 12 are punched at the desired points for engagement by the ordinary collar button 14, the elasticity of the rubber permitting the apertures 12 to be readily stretched over the button 14: and the collar retained firmly fastened thereon, thereby overcoming the difficulties attendant in fastening hard rubber or starched collars and preventing the loosening of the fastening common to ordinary soft collars.
The rubber sheeting constituting the inner and outer plies 2 and 3 may be made of any desired color by dyeing or otherwise coloring the rubber before molding. The sheeting is of a soft and pliable character to afford comfort to the wearer, and must be made of a suflicient weight or thickness of material to cause the collar to stand in the desired position when secured about the neck band of a shirt;
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1 v '1. A fold down rubber collar comprising an outer ply; an inner ply secured thereto and formed in portions constituting a neck band and a turn down portion, said portions portions constituting a neck band and a turn down portion, said portions arranged to meet along the line of fold; and beveled edges formed upon the inner ply portions adjacent the line of fold to reduce the thickness of the collar when folded thereon; fastening tabs arranged to overlap when the collar is =lar material secured thereto and formed in cent the line'of fold to reduce the thickness 7 portions constituting a neck band anda turn down portion, sald portions arranged to meet along the line of fold; and bevelededges formed upon" the inner ply portions" adjaof the collar when folded thereon; fastening tabs arranged to overlap when the collar is secured around the neck of a wearer, said tabs being beveled upon opposite sides adj acent the top thereof to reduce the thickness of the collar at the throat.
4. A fold down collar comprisingan outer ply of flexible dyed rubber; an inner ply of similar material cemented thereto and formed in portions arranged to'meet along the line of fold; beveled edges formed upon the inner ply portions adjacent the line of fold to reduce the thickness of the collar when folded thereon; fastening tabsformed upon the ends of the collar and arranged-t0.-
overlap when the collar is secured around the neck of a wearer, said tabs being beveled uponopposite sides adj acent the top thereof to reduce the thickness of thejcollar at the throat.
