sion of an article of this character which will be clean and sanitary by reason of the fact that it will permit the application and removal of the cloth or fabric used for cleaning, thus insuring clean material for service in connection with the utensil.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an article of this character which will be of the simplest and cheapest construction possible, which will. be sanitary and thoroughly efficient, and which will be entirely practical from every standpoint.
With these objects in view, myinventicn consists of a cleaning utensil of the char acter and for the purpose stated, made from a single piece of wire and embodying novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cleaning implement or utensil constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 represents an edge view of the implement showing the mop or cleaning material applied to show the manner of using the implement.
My implement or utensil is of extremely simple construction, being made from a sin gle piece of wire bent to the proper shape and consisting; of the retaining loop or bend A, the arm B leading therefrom, the end loop or ring 0, the intermediate loop or ring D, the smaller loop or ring E, said rings (J and D, passing around the arm B, to con nect and brace the parts, and the small ring E having the arm F, passing under the retaining loop A, and said arm being bent or twisted to form the head of my device which comprises the series of three rings G, each composed of two members H, to form a clamp to retain the material J forming the mop or cleaner, and the latter loop passing through the loop A, as at K and retained in place by said retaining loop A. In applying the mop to the handle, the strands of the mop are passed or threaded in between the adjoining"portion of the loops and because of its resiliency, the metal wire of which the loops are made, clamps and holds the mop in place. From this construction, it will be observed that the implement consists of a handle or grasping portion and a head portion composed of a series of clamping memhere or rings which grasp and retain the material which forms the mop or cleaner, and for the purpose of conveniently suspend.ingthe implement, I provide the hook L, which is connected to the device as shown.
It will be seen that by bending the wire as shown the handle is made strong and stiff and, the end ring and intermediate rings serve to brace and strengthen the handle while the series of three double rings make a mop carrying head of angular shape the double rings receiving and clamping the fabric between the two strands which comprise each ring. The angular shape of the clamping head is important as the upper pair of rings give a broad portion to clamp the fabric while the outer ring narrows the head and enables the fabric to enter small places and edges to efiiect a more perfect cleaning.
, It will be understood that I provide a device which can be manufactured at a very small price, which is sanitary and healthful for the purpose intended, and which will prove a useful and practical household article.
I claim:
1. The cleaning implement herein described, made from a single piece of wire and consisting of a handle or grasping portion having an end ring and a series of intermediate bracing rings, and a head adapted to receive and hold the mop or cleaning material and consisting of a series of double strand clamping rings.
2. The cleaning implement herein described, consisting of a handle or grasping portion provided with an end ring and a series of connecting and bracing rings, a ln testimony whereof I afiix' my signa head of tyiangular form comprising a series ture in presenee of two Witnesses. of clamplng rings for securlng the Clea-1 mg material, said rings being disposed to form JULIAN MAGRUDER' a, forward single ring and an upper pair of Witnesses:
rings, and a terminal hook for securing the i 1101;,
rings to the handle. W. F. NioH'oLs.
