To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. B. GRAVIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVestwood. in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washcloths and Towels; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in wash cloths and towels.
The object of the invention is to provide a wash cloth or towel constructed and arranged to facilitate the washing and rubbing of the back.
A further object is to provide means whereby a firm grip may be had on the ends of the towel when in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the wash cloth or towel before being rolled for use; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the manner in which the cloth or towel is rolled; Fig. 3 is a side view of the rolled towel showing one form of handle; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the handles shown in Fig. 3 Fig. 5 is a detail view of one end of the rolled towel showing a handle formed by the end of the same Fig. 6 is a similar view showing a different manner of forming the handle from the end of the rolled cloth or towel.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the wash cloth or towel which may be formed of toweling cloth, chamois or other suitable material, and is preferably of the shape shown in Fig. l of the drawings. In arranging the towel or cloth for use, the same is rolled in the manner shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings to provide an elongated roll which will be thicker at its intermediate portions and gradually tapering toward its opposite ends, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The free edge of the towel, when thus rolled is sewed or otherwise fastened to the body of the roll.
At the opposite ends of the rolled towel are arranged suitable handles to facilitate the holding of the towel when using the Specification of Letters Patent.

coil 4. and is eX- tended to form a hook shaped towel engaging pin 5 which is inserted through the end of the towel and sprung into engagement with the eye 3 thereby securely attaching the handle to the towel.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings is shown a han dle 6 which is formed by folding the ends of the towel or cloth back upon themselves to form loops, the looped ends of the towel or cloth being provided with one
member 7 of a resilient fastening device, the opposite member 8 of which is secured to the side of the towel or cloth whereby when said members of the fastening device are engaged with each other, the ends of the towel or cloth are secured, thus forming the loops or handles 6.
In Fig. 6 of the drawings is shown a bandle 9 formed by folding the end of the towel or cloth upon itself to form a loop in the same manner as described in the form of handle shown in Fig. 5. Theends of the towel or cloth forming the loop 9 in Fig. (3 have secured thereto a ribbon or
tape 10 which, when the end is folded back, is adapted to be tightly tied around the towel, thus securing the end and forming the loop.
In using the cloth or towel, the handles at the opposite ends thereof are grasped and the device thrown around or across the back, after which the towel or cloth is drawn back and forth or reciprocated, thereby thoroughly cleansing or rubbing the back.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion andthe minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
