Application filed September 21, 1912. Serial No. 721,540.
1 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, J OSEPH M. ArniNsoN,
. a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts and Drawers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved garment for mens wea rcomprising a certain combination of over-shirt and. drawers.
The object of the invention is to provide an over-shirt and drawers united in one garment, for mens wear, said garment being specially constructed to insure that the front or bosom part of the shirt when on the person will be kept drawn smoothly. This is done by providing means to cause a close fit of the drawer legs at the crotch or at the Figure 1 is a front view of the united garment. Fig. 2 is a vertical section down the center of the garment along the iiap of the front opening. Fig. 3, is a front view of the two legs of the garment showing that the legs are completely separated along a vertical line at the crotch. Fig. 4 is a back view of the lower part of the garn'ient, including the seat portion and the legs.
The united over-shirt and drawers garment should be made preferably of suitable textile fabric.
The shirt part shown in the drawing has the front designated by the numeral, 1, and
band, 4, and sleeves, 5, which are provided with cufis, 6. The two legs of the drawers part have their fronts designated, 7, and
their backs, 8; the legs are a continuation downward of the same ieces of textile fabric that compose the s irt-f ront and back. The drawer legs are completely separated from each other at the crotch, 9; this separation' makes the crotch open at the front, underneath and u at the back to, 10, as clearly shown in igs. 3 and4. The garment has a front opening, 11, that commences at the necloband and extends centrally down the Shirt;,boso n,'.12, and opens into'the' said; ,o en cro tch, 9. This vertical front opening 18 closed by buttons, 13. It
' the will thus be understood the front opening, 11, that commences at the neck-band, and also the open-crotch, 9, that extends from said front opening up the back to, 10, separates the right and left sides of the garment except at that part, 14, of the back where the said two side's are joined from the neck band, 4, to the point, 10, see Figs. 2 and 4.
The front fabric, 1, and back, 2, of the garment are united by side seams, 15, from the arm-hole downward. .The front, 7, and the back, 8, of each leg has an inseam, 16, which commences at the bottom, 17, of the leg but does not extend all the Way up to the crotch part. A V-shaped piece of elastic material, 18, is inserted above the inseam, 16, of each leg, the broadest part, 19, of said elastic material being uppermost-and forming a part of the crotch edge, 9, of the drawer leg. This if-shaped insert of elastic material at the thigh or crotch part of each leg of the drawers serves, in a united shirt and drawer garment, a special purpose which it is one of the objects of this invention to achieve, namely, to cause a close fit of the drawer leg at the crotch of a person,
cast the inner side of each thigh, and by such close fit insure a slight down-pull on front or bosom-part of the shirt that will keep said bosom down smoothly; the V-shaped insert, 18, being of elastic material will avoid an unpleasant degree of tightness on the flesh of the'wearer.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patout is:
An'overshirt and drawers for mens wear, consisting of the front having two vertical pieces of textile fabrica right and leftthe top of both pieces commencing at the shoulder-seams and extending downward therefrom to the bottom. of the two legs, and said two front pieces separated from each other by a vertical opening that includes the neckband and-extends to and forms an openerotch; the back of the garment extending from the shoulders to said leg-bottoms, said back portion being of the same length from the shouldonseam down as said front pol tions, and each leg of saidgarment provided with a-separate V shaped piece of elastic material inserted in the msoam pfthe leg 'the b i eadest partfof said V-shape being upper- In testimony whereof I aifix my signature most and forming anl elastic edge to said in presence of two witnesses. V open-crotcn, whereby the elastic edges of said JOSEPH vM ATKINSON open-crotch contacting with the inner part;
5 of thewearers thigh will produce a slight itnesses: V down-pull on the front or bosom part of the MARTIN J. GOLDUGK,
sgarment and. keep same drawn smoothly. JOHN P. SCHWARTZ.
