To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH \V. Rnnsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the countyljof Salt Lake and I W btate of Utah, have invented certain new erence indicate like parts throughout the several figures and as described in the specification forming a part of th1s application and pointed out in the appendedclaims.
In said drawings in which I have shown a substantial embodimentfof my invention, Figure l is a planview of one end portion of a channel tie in which my clamping device may be used. Fig. 2 is the other end portion of a similar tie with a portion of a railway rail fastened thereon with myimproved clamp and rail chair. Fig. 3 is a vertical section thereof on line a" m of Fig. 2,.

As illustrated in the drawings, a metal tie of channel shape, A, has portions of the bottom cut and struck up to form clampengaging lugs B. A portionof the free end of each of said lugs is bent to conform to and contact withthe upper side of a rod or bolt 0 which is riveted in the side walls a of the tie. A portion of each of said side walls a is cut out adjacent the rails,as at b, in order that the rail D will not contact with said side walls. A clamping rail support is provided in the channel ofsaid tie near each end thereof, which engages and supports the rail D placed thereon.
