use as a box insert, the inclosing box being indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 10.
My complete invention provides for interend walls carrying folded-up extensions forming hollow platforms of determined shape and, location within the box; the single blank employed comprising a bottom portion 2, side wall portions 3, 3, and end wall portions 5 and 6. In the preferred complete-bon construction indicated in Figs. 1 to 8 inclusive, each side wall portion `3 is provided with aninturned locling end 10, and also with a platform extension for a part 'of its length adjacent the end `wall portion 5; said extension consisting of a top section 12, a vertical wall 13, and a bottom section 14, which i are adapted to fold on thescored tangular platform with the horizontal-top scction'12 in the' plane of the top edges of the box, and the parallel section 14 resting upon the bottom 2 section 13 from the side wall 3 of the box. As shown this hollow rectangular platform is closed diagonally at its exposed inner end, approximately midway of the length of the box, by afolding'vertical wall section 18 of th blank, having a betteln-contacting extension 19, and by interlocking inturned ends il() and Q1 of the sections 18 and 11i; while its outer end is closed by the end wall 5, preferably with tensions 22, 23, .24 of said sections folded in so as to give rigidity to the structure.
The end wall 5 of the box, which closes and spacing the vertical against the adjacent ends of the rectangular i platforms, is provided with locking ends 25, 9,5 which are turned into the latter, and retained by one or all o f said end closure`extensions 22, Q3, 24; and it is also pro-vided, as shown, with a spacing- flap extension 26, 27, which is folded against lthe inner face of the wall 6, between the two sidewall platforms, with the end portion 27 thereof restmg upon the bottom of the box. rihe opposite end Wall 6 is provided with a triangular extension 30, which. is adapted to fold on the scored line 31 over the inturned lock'- ing ends 10 of the side walls 3, 3, so-as to triangular platform having its point extending-centrally into the box; the verticaflrwallsiof said 'platform being formed by connected sections 32, adapted to fold an the `Scared linea dit firmly end portion 34 of said sections 3:2 being fold= ed on the scored lines 35 so as to rest upon the bottom of the box. One of said sections 32 is also provided with an in-folding locking end 36, which gives added rigidity to the folded-up platform.
When the side wall and end wall portions "'olds, by means Of a falsdbottoin key-piece 40, which 1s accurately cut to the interior outline of the platform box, and is .pressed down into the latter upon the bottomcontacting portions 19, 27, 34 of the wall ex tension sections, so as to firmly hold the` folded form and at the same time neatly complete the interior finish of the box.
y 'lhe preferred shape and arrangement of t-he platforms as specifically described, may be readily modified without departing from the main fea-tures of my invention, as indicated in Figs.v 7 and 8; Fig. T showing only one of the side walls of the box provided with an inwardly extended platform, and the triangular end-wall platform beinff correspondingly changed in form; and llig. 8
` indicating another slight modification of said triangular end wall platform, the purpose of which is to reduce the interior size of the box while maintaining a determined standard size exteriorly.
The embodiment of 1n invention as above described provides for tie construction of a complete box from a single blank; which box may either be'used alone, if made of sultably strong material, ormay be used merely as aI liner insert in a separate box of any desired construction, in which case it may be formed of lighter material especially ada ated for interior finish only. In the mo ification shown in Figs. 9 and 10, which 1s adapted only for use as a lining insert in a separate box indicated by the dotted lines of F1g. 10, the main portions of the side walls .3, 3 of the specifically described construction (Figs. 1 to 8) are dispensed with, and the false-bottom key-piece 40 may also be'omtted, as the snugly fitted -inclosing box 50 will serve to sufficiently retain the folded form of the blank.
In the F lgs. 1 to8 construction, it will be readily seen that the flaps 26 produce a rounded edge on the box end 5 instead of showing a cut edge as on the sides 3 3, and
"that s-iniilarufiaps might beemployed on the sidesto produce a similar edge finish.
What.- I claim is 1. A rectangular box made up of a folded blank comprising a bottom portion and a "wall portion having a folding inverted-box extension forming a hollow platform upon said bottom portion; and an insertible false bottom piece for supporting the foldedl blank.l k
2.I A rectangular box made up of a folded blank comprising a bottom portion and a wall portion having a folding inverted-box extension forming a hollow7 platform, with vprojecting'tabs, upon Said bottom portion; and an insertible false-bottonrpiece for supporting the folded blank.
` 3. A folded-blank rectangular box comprising bottom, end-wall, and side-wall portions, one 0f said-end-wall portions having an inverted-trian ular-boxgextension forming a hollow plat orm iii the main box, and one of said side-wall portions having a rectangular box extension -forming a folded hollow platform in the main box for a portion of its length; and an inserted falsebottom key-piece.
li. A folded-blank 'rectangular box comprising bottom, end wall and side wall portions, one of said side-wall portions having a folding rectangular-box extension forming a hollow platform in the main box extending .part way of its length and provided with a diagonally-closed end intermediate of the end walls ofthemain box, and a separately fitted support for said extension substantially conforming in shape to the foldedblank rectangular box.
5. A tray like receptacle made up of sheet material in two separately formed parts, one of said parts comprising a bottom portion and a wall portion having a folding inverted box like extension forming a hollow platform upon said bottom portion, the other of said parts being separately fitted to and retaining the first said part in its folded form.
6. A tray like receptacle made up 4of. a blank comlirising a bottom portion having a folding inverted box extension forming a hollow platfori'n upon said bottom portion, and a separately fitted fold retaining support for the box extension and engaging with a side wall portion of said box extension.
-l'n testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
