Description

c. 1, BLMORE. NBGKTIB FASTBNER.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 20,'1914.
Patented sept. 1, 1914 i course, old and common in this art and may CHARLES F. ELMORE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NECKTIE-FASTENER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented sept. 1, 1914.
Application led January 20, 1914. Serial No. 813,224.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. ELMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relatesto certain `newiand useful improvements in neck-tie fasteners and is fully described and explained in the specification and shown in the accompany-- ing drawing, in which:
Figure l'is an elevation of a vneck-tie in position of use, showing the manner in which my device is applied thereto; Fi". 2 is a transverse section, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of the device, showing certain parts in section.
Referring to the drawings, 4 and 5 are two members having ears 6 pivoted together by a pin 7 and vhaving their rear ends held apart and their forward ends together by a spring 8. The forward ends of the members 4 and 5 are provided with intermeshing teeth 9 forming aws.
The structure thus far described is, of
be modified, as desired'.
The use of the device as thus far described and as heretofore in use for the purpose of holding a tie in position is open to several disadvantages. It is common to place a clamping device so as to pinch and hold together the plait at the front of the shirt and the edge of a neck-tie, and for certain types of neck-ties, notably those which are quite narrow, this is entirely satisfactory. Frequently, however, very wide neck-ties are worn and if the common clamping device be used in the ordinary manner, then one edge of the neck-tiehas to be brought into line with the edge of the plait at the front of the shirt, and the neck-tie can then no longer be centrally disposed but is pushed very far to one side. To overcome this disadvantage I have provided on my neck-tie fastener means to engage it with the body of the tie away from the edge thereof. T his means consists of a pin l0 pointed at 11,
over which a cap 12 may be screwed. In.
the use of this device the tie is pierced by the pin 10 and the cap is screwed over it to hold the tie in place on the pin, and the of the art.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A neck-tie fastener comprising a clip adapted to engage a portion of a shirt, a pin extending outwardly at right angles from one member of the clip intermediate the ends thereof and adapted to pierce the material of a neck-tie, and a cap adapted to be secured over the pin to hold the necktie in place thereon.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 1l day of January, 1914.
' CHARLES F. ELMORE.
