burrs e RUSSELL MUELLER, OF GLENCOE, MISSOURI.
DO CIR-HANGER.
Application filed March 5, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUssnLL MUELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glencoe, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to door hangers, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a hanger for barn doors which will operate easily under varying conditions and which will be firmly supported and which will slide easily on the track.
Another object of the invention is to provide reliable and eflicient means for guiding the door in its lateral movement and to permit ready adjustment of the door relatively to the door casing or frame.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation and partial section of a door hanger made in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the hanger connected to the upper edge or top of the door and removed from the track, Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the same.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the side of, a barn or buildin and 2 is a door adapted to be suspended and moved upon a track. The track is inclosed in a metal casing comprising a top 3, a back portion 4: having a forwardly extending track member 5 at its lower end, while the front portion 6 of the track casing is provided with an angular inwardly extending flange 7 provided with an upwardly projecting rail 8. This track casing is secure above the door opening and is braced by means of the inclined bars or braces 9 connected by bolts 10 to the building and by suitable screws or bolts 11 to the casing. This casing is preferably formed of sheet steel pressed into form.
The hanger mrmloer consists of a piece of sheet steel bent to form the curved upper portion 12 and the overhanging flange 13 which is spaced from the body portion or back 14. J ournaled on bolts 15 are grooved Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 4, 1914.
Serial No. 822,743.
rollers 16 adapted to run on the rail member 8. Extending downwardly from the body portion 1 1 are spaced lugs 17 which are bent to form pintle bearings and secured at their ends to the bodv portion 14 by means of suitable rivets 18. Extending through the pintle bearings formed by the lugs 17 are pintles 19. Secured near the top of the door 2 are supporting straps 20 which are connected to the door by bolts 21. and extend over the upper edge of the door and are provided with corrugations 22. The plate 14 is cut away on its lower edge as at 23 to permit the pintle 19 to be adjusted in any of the loops 24k to move the door in toward the building or outward as desired.
Connected to the body portion 14 of the hangers is an angular rod or shaft 25 having a depending arm 26, and journaled on the arm 26 is a guide roller 27 adapted to run on the track or rail 5 to hold the door firmly supported vertically to prevent wabbling of the same. The roller 27 is held in place by means of a washer and cotter pin secured to the depending member 26.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a door hanger made in accordance with this invention is comparatively simple in construction, is strong and durable, and will hold the door in vertical position to prevent wabbling owing to the arrangement of the guide roller 27 and the supporting roller 16.
Various modifications may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What is claimed is z- 1. A door hanger provided with an overhanging flange, rollers journaled between the flange and body portion of the hanger. pintle bearings formed on the lower ends of the hanger, a pintle in said bearings, a track on which the rollers are adapted to be supported, and a supporting member connected to the upper edge of the door and provided with corrugations, said pintle engaging said corrugations, to permit the adjustment of the door toward and from the building.
2. A door hanger comprising a rectangular casing having an upwardly extending supporting track rail, and an outwardly extending guide rail, a door hanger provided with rooved rollers to run on the upwardly extending track rail, and a grooved roller positioned to run upon the outwardly eX- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature tending rail, and a bracket connected to the in presence of tWo Witnesses. upper edge of the door and provided with RUSSELL MUELLER corrugations and loops and a pintle on the 5 depending end of the hanger to engage the Witnesses:
corrugations for permitting the adjustment WILLIAM BILCHMANN, of the door relatively to the hanger. H. E. SONTAG. 3
