APPAREL-CORSET.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL KoPs, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented anImprovement in Apparel-Corsets, of which the following is a specification.

In Letters Patent, No. 1,082,273, granted to me December 23, 1913, there is shown and described an apparel corset, in which the lower front body portion is constructed to closely fit and properly support the abdo men, and which corset is also provided with skirt members independent of the lower front portions of the corset body, in order to provide a garment which will at the same time properly support the abdomen and also produce th prevailing straight front effect, j

the parts of this corset being so arranged that these functions are performed independently, one of the other. In such a corset, there is employed a front skirt member secured along an upper edge to the corset body a substantial distance from the lower edge of the corset, this memberbeing also secured to the corset body along one side edge, forming a continuation of the skirt and also overlying the part on the lower front portion of the corset body. In the use, however, of a corset so constructed,

the skirt portions thereof assume a regular continuity, extending around the body of the wearer, and the front skirt sections are not adjustable to position relatively to the lower front body portion of the corset, due

. to the fact that at their upper edges they are permanently secured to the corset body. Be-

cause of this, these front skirt sections are not adapted to closely fit the groin sections of the body.

Now, the object of my present invention is" the provision of a corset so constructed that it properly fits and supports the abdomen, provides for the straight front eflect, and suitably confines and shapes the upper fleshy portions of the limbs in substantially the same manner as the corset shown and described in my aforesaid application, but in which the upper portions of the front skirt sections are adjustably secured in position relatively to the lower front portions of the corset body, depending upon the pressure the lower front portions of the corset body are to exert against the body.

The skirt section 17 is connected atone edge tothe front edge of the skirt 18 along a line of sewing 19 which extends upwardly from thebottom edge of the skirt to the lower edge ofthe corset, as indicated at 20, and also continues upwardly to the upper corner of the skirt extension, as indicated at 21. Similarly the skirt extension 18 is connected along one edge of the front or forward edge cf the skirt 16 along a line of sewing indicated at 22. Extending from the lower edge of the skirt upwardly, the lower edge of the corset is indicated at 23, and the line of sewing 22 is also continued upwardly to the upper corner of the skirt extension, as is indicated at 24, that portion of the skirt extension above the lower edge of the corset,

it will be understood, being connected to the body half. These skirt extensions complete the continuity of the skirts from the rear to the front medial lines thereof, and, as is ,plainly indicated in Fig. 2, the upper porparts to the corset body. It will be understood, however, that any suitable means may be employed for attaching the upper adjacent portions of the skirt extensions together or to the corset body, in order to properly secure these parts in position.

Attached to the lower edge of the skirt extension 17 is a hose supporter or tension device 27, and similarly attached to the skirt extension 18 is a hose supporter or tension device 28. In the use of the hereinbefore described garment, the tension applied to the skirt sections by means of the hose supporters issuch as to exert both a downward and a lateral hold thereon, so that the upper portions of the skirt sections or. extensions lie closely against the adjacent 1 underlying lower front parts of the corset body, and the lower portions of the skirt sections or extensions closely fit the limbs of the wearer, producing a distinct line of demarcation between the abdomen and the i limbs, as is indicated in Fig. 1.

Referring to Fig. 3, it will be seen that instead of terminating the front of the corset skirts in a free line, running approximately parallel wlth the front steels, the

front of the skirts may be terminated in a curved line, as indicated at 30, the front portion of the skirt extension being indicated at 29. In this construction, I employ a flap member, indicated at 31, associated with each corset body half. Each of these flap members is secured to the skirt extension, the skirt proper and a portion of the corset body half along the lines of sewing indicated at 32 and 33, the former showing a connection between the flap and the skirt extension, and the latter between the skirt proper and the corset body half, so that the entire distant edge of each flap 31 is secured in position from its lower inner corner, in dicated at 34, to its upper inner corner, indicated at at. These flap members 31 are provided with eyelets 35, and the corset steels, adjacent the lower ends, with. hooks 36, adapted to receive and engage with one of the eyelets 35 to secure the upper portions of the flaps in the desired positions. The flap members 31 are provided with hose supporters or tension devices secured to the lower edges thereof and indicated at 37 and also, as is shown in this figure, additional hose supporters may be provided at the lower edges of the skirts at the sides of the corset. One of these hose supporters is indicated at 38.

Referring to Fig. 4:, it will be seen that the lower front portions of the steels are preferably curved inwardly, as is indicated at 39, in order to provide a suitable support for the abdomen.

I claim as my invention:

An apparel corset comprising corset body halves, each having a depending skirt extending from the rear medial line thereof forwardly, skirt sections completing the continuity of the said skirts to substantially the front medial line of the corset and extending an appreciable distance below the front meeting edges thereof, each skirt section being connected along one side edge to its skirt and also to a portion of the corresponding corset body half, means for ad justably securing the adjacent front edges of the said skirt sections in position, and tension devices attached to and extending below the lower front edges of the said skirt sections.
