To all whom it mag/ concern Be it known that I, Jnssn D. BABE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Paulding and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful li'nprovements in Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new anduseful improvements in sash locks andmore particularly to a spring-actuated window sash lock, the object of the invention being to provide a lock of this character whereby a window sash can be raised or lowered and securely locked in any. desired position and will also be effectually prevented from rattling.

is inexpensive of manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the same taken upon the outer side of the lever. Fig. 5 is a similar view taken upon the inner side of the lever. Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the draw ings, 1 indicates the window casing and 2 and 3 the upper and lower sections of the sash which are slidably mounted therein. Secured to the window casing and to the front face of the upper sash, are the metallic strips 4 and 4:, each strip being provided with a plurality of notches 5 which are adapted to receive the locking bolt 6 and the operating lever 7 of the sash lock 8.

an elongated slot 13 and isiurther. provided with the outstanding lug 14, upon one facetherecf. This lug 14-. is adapted to be engaged by a second lug 15 formed on the pivoted operated lever 7, so thatupon the actuation ofthe lever, the bolt 6 will be reciprocated within the casing 9. The operating lever 7 is pivotally mounted'upon a transverse pin 16 which extends entirely through the casing 9. Mounted upon the pin 16 and arranged within one end ofthe slot 13 is a nut 17 which isiadapted to bear against one end of the coil spring l8when the lockin g bolt is released from the notches in the strip 4, placing the spring under tension', whereby the tension of the spring will turn the locking bolt to its normal or looking position. The inner end of the operating lever 7 is provided with a tapering portion 19 which, when the lever is in its normal position bears against the one wall of the casing so that the locking bolt will not retract farther than is needed to securely lock the sash.
As illustratedin Fig. 1,the strips 4 and 4E are so arranged that the notches in the strip" 4L are so arranged to receive the end of the locking bolt, while the strip 4' is arranged so that the notches will receive the curved end portion of the operating lever 7, thussecurely holding either of the sashes against movement. The outer end of the operating lever is provided with an opening in which is engaged one end of a cord 20, the other end of said cord extending downwardly through an eye 21 to the lower end of the window casing so that it will be within easy reach to operatethe lock.
From the above description, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durablesash lock which can be quickly and readily applied to a window sash and which is easily operated and is efi'ective in its operation. It will be seen that the device as a whole is extremely simple in construction and can be manufac tured at a comparatively low cost.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportionsmaybe resorted to tor successfully carryin my invention into practice without sacri cing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended. claim.
