Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DELAMAR C. Bnrcss, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Hinges for Metallic-Window Ventilators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to metallic window constructions, and comprises the peculiar construction of an adjustable hinge connection between the stationary and swinging sections of the window sash.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a horizontal section through adjacent portions of a stationary and swinging sash member showing the hinge connection therebetween; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hinged members detached from each other; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section in the plane of the pivot.
A and B are the adjacent bars of theswinging and stationary sash sections, which, as shown, are in the form of T-bars having molded heads and parallel spaced stems.
C and D are hinge members, each of which is provided with a shank portion E extending parallel to the stem of its respective bar A or B and an outwardly-projecting ear portion F. One of the ears F has a round aperture G therein for receiving a pivot H, while the other ear is provided with a vertically slotted aperture I for receiving a shank J of the pin H. The pivot H is preferably a shoulder screw, the shank J being threaded to receive a clamping nut K, the arrangement being such as to permit of vertically adjusting the pin in relation to the ear F. The shanks E may be secured to the stems of the bars A and B by any suitable means, such as riveting.
In use, the members G and D may be secured to the bars A and B without necessity of accurate positioning on said bars in relation to each other. When the swinging sash is hung, the clamping nut K is loosened, permitting of raising or lowering the shank J of the pin H until the proper adjustment is obtained, after which the nut is tightened to hold the parts in this adjustment.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. In a metallic window, the combination with adjacent bars of stationary and swinging sash sections having parallel spaced portions, of a hinge comprising cooperating member each having a shank portion lying adjacent to one of said bars and an outwardly-projecting ear portion, a pin pivotally engaging one of said ears and having a shouldered threaded shank engaging a ver tical slot in the other of said ears, and a clamping nut engaging said shank and cooperating with said shoulder to clamp said plin in its adjusted position in said vertical s 0t.
2. In a metallic window, the combination with adjacent bars of stationary and swinging sash sections having parallel spaced portions, of a hinge comprising cooperating members, each having a shank portion lying adjacent to one of said bars and an outwardly-projecting ear portion, one of said ears having a round aperture therein and the other a vertically-extending slot, a shouldered pin having a head portion for engaging said round aperture and a shank portion of lesser diameter for engaging said slot, and a clamping nut for engaging the threaded end of said shank portion to clamp said shoulder in different positions of adjustment.
3. In a metallic window, the combination with adjacent bars of stationary and swinging sash sections having parallel spaced ortions, of a hinge comprising separable 00- operating members fixedly secured respectively to said spaced parallel portions of the bars and projecting outward therefrom, one of said members being provided with a round pivot aperture, and a pin engaging said aperture and adjustably clamped to the other of said members.
