-l:le it lrnown that l, L nrs Rosnnsrern. a citizen of the United dtates, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and'useful improvements in Dauber Attach ments' for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates .to dauber attachments for bottles and has for its general object to facilitate the daubing of articles with the liquid direct from the bottle.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, etlicient and detachable device of this character which may be readily removed from the neck of a bottle when empty and secured to the neck of a full bottle for subsequent use.

My invention is designed primarily to be used in connection with bottles containing a shoe-blacking liquid whereimnowadays, the liquid in small quantities, is usually applied to the'shoes by the use of a brush or cloth. This method of application is objected to, first, for the reason that an unamount of time is lost in transferring the liquid to thebrush and then from the brush to the shoe; and second, for the reason that the uncorked bottle is very often accidentally upset and most of its contents lost. This invention is designed to overcome these objections and therefore l attach to the neck of a bottle an absorbin element, whereby the liquid may be direc'y applied to the shoes to be blackened.
Referring to the drawings the neck of the bottle herein generally designated by l, is provided with a removable tapering plug it having a head portion 3 and a central passage l, which passage has both its ends 5 and 6 tapered outwardly for the purpose of fa cllitating the flow of liquid and directing the same to the brush or absorbing element 7. The absorbing element is formed of any suitable material and is provided with the shouldered portlon d and the eatended head portion 9 which head portion'is split, as at id. for the purpose of facilitating the feed of liquid to the element when the device is in use. it clamping collar ll mounted on the shouldered portion 8 of the dauber and sprung over the extended head portion 3,'se curely clamps the absorbing element in position on the head of the plug.
A removable cap 12 is sprung over the collar 11 as shown, for the purpose of protecting the absorbing element and acting as a closure for the bottle when the device is applied to the bottle before shipment. By
providing the cap with a lip 13 a substantial gripping surface is presented for the removal of the cap, when desired.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and therefore I do not wish to be limited to such features ex cept as may be required by the claim.

A dauber comprising a plug adapted to be secured within the neck of a bottle and having an open ended bore, a clampingcollar arranged around the end of the plug, and absorbent material arranged over the head of the plug and having its marginal portions interposed between the clamping collar and the sides of the-head of the plug, said material having edges which normally meet each other, the said meeting edges of the material being disposed transversely across the end of the bore in the plug.
