I IMPROVEMENTIN SCHOOL-DESKS AND SEATS.

This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in school furniture, and consists in a combined desk and seat hinged to the frame or stands, and made noiseless by cushioning, as hereinafter more fully described.

The accompanying drawing represents, byv Figure I, a side view, partly in section, and by Figure 2, an end View of my combined desk and seat, as connected with the stand or end piece, showing the seat and the desk-bars turned up as when not in use, and their true positions when in use in dotted lines.

A are the standards of the combined desk and seat, amid. the head piece. i

B is the seat.

0 is the desk.

D is an arm projecting upward directly above the forward leg of the standard to which the seat is hinged.

E is an arm projecting from the back of the stamiard to vwhich the desk 0 is hinged.

In the top portion of each of these arms there is an open slot, in which the joint-portion F F of the desk and scat-bars work.

G G are stop-pins, which are cushioned with India rubber.

H H are stop-hooks on the joint parts F F, which strike the cushions when-the desk and seat are let down for use, as represented in dotted lines.

The seat and the desk turn on the central pivots I I.

\Vheirthc seat or desk is thrown back or raised, as represented iu'thc (lrawing, shoulders, J J strike the cushioned stop-pins, which hold them in an upright position, as seen in the drawing.

The hinge-parts F 1* of the seat and desk-bars form,

It will he observed that the stop-pins G G are Within the open slots in thearms and entirely out of sight, and thatfthere is little danger of children get.-

ting their fingers injured in the joint.
