Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 27, 1912.
Patented Apr. 1a, 1914. Serial No. 733,843.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEVE DUosAY, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Canonsburg, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new .and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a sash holder, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device that can be easily and quickly mounted upon the meeting rail of a window sash and set to hold the sash in a locked position when closed and against accidental closing when the sash is raised.
A further object of my invention is to provide a sash holder that is durable, easy to install, neat in appearance and easy to manipulate.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will 110w be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the window holder as applied to a sash, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a detached holder.
Further describing my invention in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein like numerals denote corre sponding parts throughout: 1 denotes a portion of a window frame having a sash 2 and mounted upon the meeting rail 3 of said sash by screws 4 or other fastening means is an angle strap 5 of a hinge. The angle strap 5 is located at a point removed from the side of the sash and said strap has openings 6 to receive the screws 4. The angle strap 5 has abarrel 7 for a pivot pin 8 and said pivot pin supports the barrels 9 of .a hinged strap 10. The strap 10 is riveted or otherwise connected, as at 11 to a fiat holding member 12 that has the ends thereof slightly curved and toothed, as at 13. The strap 10 terminates in a finger piece 14 which permits of the holding member 12 being easily moved relatively to the angle strap 5. When the sash is in a lowered position the holding member 12 can be positioned as shown in Fig. l to lock the sash in a lowered position. After the sash 2 has been raised the holding member 12 can be shifted to a reverse angle from that shown in Fig. 1, whereby the lower end of the holding member will engage in the frame 1 and support the sash in an elevated position, thereby preventing the same from accidentally closing.
The sash holding device can be made of light and durable metal and finished to harmonize with the finish of the window frame or metallic fixtures thereof.
What I claim is In a sash holding device, the combination with a window frame and sash, of an angle strap mounted upon the meeting rail of said sash and extending in proximity to said frame, a strap hinged to said angle strap and terminating in a finger piece, and a holding member carried by said hinged strap and having the ends thereof curved and toothed whereby the ends of said member can engage in said frame.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
STEVE DUCSAY.
Witnesses ADDOBATI MICHAEL, J osnrn LEBIN.
