Description

wird@ Strict WLLIAM W. RUSSELL, OF MALDEN, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent No. 109,253, dated November 1,5, 1870.-
'IMPRovEMi-:NT 1N meen-FILES.
The Schedule referred to Vin these'Letters Patent and part of the sama ITo all whom 'it my concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. RUSSELL, of Malden, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massaehusetts, have inventeda new and improved Bill :and Letter-Holder, of which the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, lis a full and exact specification.
- My invent-ion relates to two parallel pieces, between which the 'papers are placed, connected by arms, as described, and held apart, when desired, by means of an elastic strap and a stitfener,I as hereinafter described. v
The object of my invention is 'to hold the top and bottom pieces of the bill-holder at a proper distance from each other, when desired, as in inserting papers, Soc.
Figure l is a view ot' a bill-holder, open and ready for the insertion of papers.
Figure 2 is a view of the same when closed.
c the bottom piece of the bill-holder.
b is a handle to aid in raising the top a..
:l is an elastic band, which tends to pressthe pieces a c together. eis' a'stifteuer, usually made of stitt cloth, connecting the pieces a. c.
g 7L are arms, serving to hold the pieces at a distance apart and parallel with each other, as in g. 1.
In practical operation, when l wish to open my bill-holder, I grasp the handle b with one hand and the bottom Vpiece c with the other, and pull the top piece a upwarthand rearward.
Then the top piece c arrives beyond the. greatest point of extension therubber band cl and stilener o hold the two pieces apart, as in tig. l.
It is then ready for the reception ot' papers.
The stili'ener c is also convenient in holding the papers in place and keeping them from falling ont.
I am aware that there is a device `for holding bills in which the two pieces are connected .by spring arms instead of two loose ones, as in my invention, and,
without using the stitfencr c. 'I do not claim anything covered by snch invern tions. i
Thus, it will be readily seen that my bill-holder,
holds the papers tightly, can be opened easily to show the titles ofthe papers enclosed, and will remain open forth.
\Vl\I. V. RUSSELL.
