To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I. Jonx R. \Vnncn. a citizen of the l'nited States. and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State have'invented a certain new and useful Hinge: and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apm pertains to make and use the same. reference being had to the accompanying drawings. and to the v characters of reference marked thereon. which form a part of this specification.
" This invention relates to hinges and particularlv to automobile door hinges of the concealed type. but is not restricted'to such "use'as ithmay beused in any-connection'for which-it may be adapted or appropriate.
' The primary provision ofa simple and inexpensive form of hinge of this character. which is capable of having its members easily and quickly engaged one to the other or disengaged without thenecessity of inserting or removing screws which is the present practice. so far as I am aware. thus materially expediting the hanging of automobile doors and minimiiing the work incident thereto.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description thereof;

Each socket l may be open at its inner side, but is provided at its outer side at or adjacent to its outer edge with a cross-bar 6, which serves as a stop for limiting the opening movements of the door. as hereinafter more fully described. The bottom wall of each socket l is provided with a pivot bear mg or hole 7 and the top wall thereof is provided with a slot or recess 8 for the purpose hereinafter described.
The male member of the hinge preferably comprises a plate or'bar 9 adapted to be secured'to a side edge of the door 2 by screws. or in any other suitable manner and is provided with hinge arms or projections 10 in position to be projected into the respective sockets l of the female member. The projections 10 are of L-form that is they project outwardly from one face or side of the plate 9 adjacent to the inner: edge thereof. if the door is to swing Out-wardlv relative to the door casing, and having their outer end portions bent'or extended across the plate 9 in spaced relation thereto. The outer or free end of each projectionlO is provided at its lower side with a pivot-stud 11 for fitting into the bearing hole or opening 7 in the bottom wall of the respective socket 4.
- Then a hinge ar1n10 is mounted in a socket l with its stud l1 projected intothe bearing-opening T of the socket. the upper edge of the arm coacts with the top wall of the socket to prevent a raising of the arm relative to the socket for the purpose of removing the stud 11 from its bearing opening. except when the hinge members are in the full open position shown in Fig. 2. in which position the upper edge of the portion of the arm 10 which then projects within the socket is in registerwith the slot 8 in the top wall of the socket. thus permitting the arm 10 to be raised a sufficient distance to release the stud 11 from its bearing. The free end portion ofeach arm 10 from which the pivot 11 projects is shown as being enlarged or headed, as at 12. and the upper portion of this enlargement is shortened relative to the depth of themajor portion of the arm to permit it to be raised Within the socket 4 a sufiicient distance to withdraw its stud ll from the registering hear-- 'ing opening 7.
, It is evident from the above and from the drawings that the portion of each arm 10 which projects outward from the hinge. platel9'at substantially right angles thereto swings around the associated stop-barb of I the female member upon an opening movementof the door 2, andthat the laterally projecting free end portion of each arm co- 7 acts with'the bar 6 to limit an'outward swinging of the door 2 when it has been opened a 'predetermined-extente To facilitate an'adjustment of the limit of opening movements of a door, an adjusting screw 13 may be threaded through the laterally. angled portion of each hinge arm 10' in position to coact with the stop-bar 6 of the emale member. 7
It is evident that the hinge plates 3 and 9 having once been secured in properposition to their respective carrying parts need-not beremoved therefrom to permit a dressing or proper hanging of the door, but that the hinge parts may be easily and quickly engaged or removed 'as many times asis necessary by simply opening the door a sufficient 7 extent to place the laterallyangled' portions by Letters Patent, is,
