Application filedLApril 1, 1913. Serial No. 758,273.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LWARREN S. SMITH, a United States, residing at vertical edges, while secured side of the partition 14 and to citize of the portions of the ends 11 is a rectangular anger, in the county of Northampton and frame 15 consisting of opposite side bars 16 State of Pennsylvania, have invented cerconnected by the end bars 17 and intermetam new and useful Improvements in Gabidiate brace bars 18. These end bars 17 and nets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to'the accompanying drawings.
brace bars 18 produce a plurality of spaces 19 111 the said frame 15 for a purpose to be later disclosed.
This invention relates to new and useful plurality of bins 20 are disposed within improvements i bi t d o pe the cabinet each consisting of opposite side cially to that class adapted for use in con- Walls 21, a rear wall 22 and a front wall 23 nection with stores or the like for displaying articles to be sold.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a cabinet in which are adjustably supported removable bins, the said bins being held against displacement from the cabinets by suitable latches carried thereby.
A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this char acter, rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eiiicient in use and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construct-ion, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illus trated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of my invention; Fig. 2 is a view showing the same used as a double counter; Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of my invention as illustrated in Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of my invention; Fig. 5 is a detail transverse sectional view showing the lower end of one of the bins tilted; Fig. 6 is a similar view showing the upper end of one of the bins tilted; and Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 5 showing the bin in its normal position.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by similar characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally my improved cabinet, which consists of opposite end walls 11 connected at their upper edges by a top 12 to the forward edge of which is secured a depending locking strip 13, which extends across the front of the cabinet and is attached to the forward edges of the ends 11. A longitudinal partition 14 is secured to the lower side of the top 12 and inner faces of the end walls 11 substantially intermediate their provided with a suitable glass panel 24, by means of which the contents of the said bins e inspected. Each of the bins 20 is provided with a bottom 25, to which are secured spaced battens 26, the opposite ends of which are spaced from the front and rear walls 23 and 22, while the rear extremities of the battens 26 are beveled, as at 27. Each pair of battens 26 distance equal to the width 18 and owing to the rounded ends 27 of the battens, it will be apparent that the bins can be tilted forward within the cabinet 10, but can be limited in their forward movement by the latches 29, in their raised position contact with the strip 13 for preventing any undesired displacement of the bins from the cabinet. When it is desired to remove the cabinet, however, the latches 29 can be turned below the upper edge of the wall 22 and the said bins can be readily removed. The upper edge of the strip 16 is outwardly inclined, so that the acute angular inner edge thereof co-acts with the notches at the junction of the floor 25 with the outer ends of the battens 26 for constituting a frictionless pivotal point.
he upper ends of the walls 21 are rounded, as at 28, to permit of the tilting bins without interfering manipulated,
The foregoing disclosure applies to what I term a single cabinet to be used as a single counter when it is desired that only one side thereof will be exposed to the view of the public, but when a double counter is preferred, the bins 20 are arranged in the opposite sides thereof, as shown in Fig. 2, of the drawing. It should be understood in this connection that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be manifest that a cabinet of the nature described is provided, which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is In a device of the character described, a frame including a pair of horizontal side bars and a pair of horizontal end bars, one
-junction of the of the side bars having its top surface outwardly and downwardly inclined and forming an acute angular edge at its upper and inner extremities, a bin having spaced battens on its bottom and being seated upon said side bars with one end of the battens in contact with the outwardly and downwardly inclined bars, so that the'acute angular edge combines with the notches at the floor and the battens for providing substantially frictionless pivotal points on which the bin may be tilted.
In testimony whereof 'I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses. WARREN S. SMITH. Witnesses: V
