LOUIS HOFFMANN, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
HOLDER FOR MEMORIAL TABLETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 10, 191 1.
Application filed February 21, 1913. Serial No. 749,870.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LoUIs I-IOFFMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Holders for Memorial Tablets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for memorial tablets.
The object of the invention is the provision of a device adapted for use as a holder or support for a marker of this character, which will perform the functions of a comparatively perfect support in a facile manner, in an efficient and economical way.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts whereby a solid, substantial support is provided, which may be firmly and rigidly secured in place, and which will be adapted to hold a memorial tablet securely.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention.
Figure 1 is a front View of the support, showing a tablet thereon in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a side View of Fig. 1.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention I employ metallic tubes, such as galvanized iron pipe, and provide an easel or A-shaped frame having the two front legs 1 and 2 and the single rear leg 3 located centrally of the two front legs. The legs are composed of pieces of pipe of suitable length and are connected by the T-coupling 4 to which the short lengths 5, 5, are coupled. These short lengths 5, 5, form the upper cross bar of the frame, and are connected by the front legs 1 and 2 by means of the elbows or angled couplings 6 and 7 The front legs of the frame include short lengths of pipe connected by T- couplings 8, 8, and into these couplings a shorter length pipe 9 is secured, at the end of which the elbow 10 is attached. The elbow has a boss 11 upon which the ball or sphere 12 is positioned, and these two short lengths 9, 9 with their accessories serve to support a tablet,
as 13 indicated in dotted lines Fig. 1 and in full lines Fig. 2. A pair of metallic plates 1 1, perforated at 15, provided with sleeves 16 slidable upon the pipes forming the front legs, are furnished to secure the tablet at its upper end. The rear leg 3 also includes a T-coupling, as 17 and from this coupling projects a rear pipe 18 closed at its end by an elbow 19 perforated to receive the stem 20 of a flower cup 21.
From this description taken in connection with the drawings it is evident that I have provided a device of this character which fulfils the conditions and purposes set forth as the object of my invention.
It will of course be understood that the parts are all connected by threaded couplings, and this construction enables the person handling the device, to pack the device in small compass by unscrewing the arm 18 from the T-coupling 17, and then the rear leg may be swung into line with the two front legs.
The cup 21 is detachable, and may be removed to replenish the water for flowers contained therein.
The material of which the support is made being of galvanized iron, the support is not likely to become disfigured from inclement weather or exposure to atmospheric changes, and withal the invention presents both an ornamental and useful device for the purpose intended.
Ilaving thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A tablet support comprising in combination, two parallel sectional front legs, a sectional rear leg, T couplings joining the sections in pairs, an upper cross bar and elbow couplings connecting the front legs thereto, a forwardly extending tablet supporting bracket secured in each T coupling of the front legs and provided with upturned ends, and securing plates for attachment to a tablet, said plates being slidably attached to the front legs by means of sleeves.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS I-IOFFMANN.
