Description

Dec. 31, 1935- M. DUNWOODY GAME BOARD Filed Sept. 5, 1935 INVENTOR. /z4c' M fiz/Mraaor Patented Dec. 31, 1935 UNITED STATES ATENTF OFFICE GAME BOARD Isaac M. Dunwoody; Denver, 0010. Application September 3, 1935, Serial No. 38,928
' 6 Claims. (01. 272-141) This invention relates to a game board, more particularly to the type of board used for drawing numbers in games of chance and the like.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a game board of this nature which can be folded into a very compact bundle for transportation or opened to form a large self-supporting, indicating surface which can be used on the stage of theatres and other large audience halls.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an indicating arrow which will rotate freely so that its point of stopping will be indeterminate; to provide an easel construction for the board which will hold it rigidly in position; to provide adjustable legs by means of which the board may be supported above the stage at any desired height; and to so construct the board that it will be easily visible, ornamental, and economical to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efliciency. These will become more apparent from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing which form a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.
In the drawing:-
Fig. l is a perspective view illustrating the appearance of the front of the improved game board.
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating the appearance of the back thereof.
Fig. 3 is a face view of the board in the folded position.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the board in the folded position.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail section through the arrow pivot.
The invention comprises a circular face board In divided diametrically as indicated at H to form two semicircular portions. The latter portions are hinged together with suitable hinges l2 at the joining line so that the board may be folded forward upon itself as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The board It! is stiffened and prevented from warping by placing a hexagonal frame IS on the back thereof. This frame carries two parallel edge members M which strengthen the board at the point where the hinges l2 are applied.
When in the open position, the board is prevented from folding by means of a cross piece If:
which is attached to the frame 13 by means of suitable thumb nuts I6.
In use, the board is supported upon removable legs H which are provided with vertical slots l8 for receiving bolts l9 which project from the back 5 of the board ID. The legs are clamped on the bolts by means of suitable thumb bolts 20. The vertical slots l8 allow the projection of the legs to be varied as desired, so as to support the board at the required elevation.
The board is placed by means of two easel braces 25 which are secured to the back of the board by means of thumb nuts 22 and suitable chains 23.
The peripheral edge of the board carries a 15 series of numbered spaces 24 which are indicated by means of a rotatably mounted arrow 25. The arrow is mounted upon a removable pad 26 which is secured to the board by means of thumb nuts 21, and which also acts as a stiffener to hold 20 the board in open alignment. A fixed stud 28 is secured at the axis of the arrow l5 between clamping nuts 29. This stud projects into a ball bearing 30 which is permanently mounted in the pad 26. It can be readily seen that the arrow 25 will He held in permanent parallel relation with the face of the: board and that it will be free to rotate without restriction.
When it is desired to fold the board for transportation, the thumb nuts I6, 20, 22, and 23 are 30 loosened, and the pad 26, the legs H, the braces 2i, and the cross piece l5 are removed. The two sections of the board are then folded forwardly upon each other, and the entire device forms a very neat and compact bundle for transporta- 35 tion.
While a specific form of the improvement has i been described and illustrated herein, it is desired to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims, 40 without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent 5 1s:-
1. A collapsible number indicating board comprising: two semi-circular sections hinged together; means for holding said two sections in open alignment when desired; an indicatingi arrow; and means for removably attaching said 50 arrow at the axis of said sections.
2. A collapsible number indicating board comprising: two semi-circular sections hinged together; means for holding said two sections in open alignment when desired; a pad member;
means for securing said pad member across the joining line of said sections and at the axis thereof; a pivot carried by said pad member; and an arrow free to rotate on said pivot.
3. A co11apsib1e number indicating board comprising: two semi-circular sections hinged together; an indicating arrow; and means for removably attaching said arrow at the axis of said sections; and a cross member removably secured to the back of said board to hold same in rigid open alignment.
4. A collapsible number indicating board comprising: two semi-circular sections hinged together; means for holding said two sections in open alignment when desired; an indicating arrow; and means for removably attaching said-arrow at the axis of said sections; a stifiening frame secured to the back of said sections; parallel members in said stiffening frame extending along the joining line of said section for carrying said hinges.
5. A collapsible number indicating board comprising; two semi-circular sections hinged together; means for holding said two sections in open alignment when desired; an indicating arrow; and means for removably attaching said arrow at the axis of said sections, legs projecting downwardly from said board and means for varying the projection of said legs as desired.
6. A collapsible number indicating board comprising: two semi-circular sections hinged together; means for holding said two sections in open alignment when desired; an indicating arrow; a fixed pivot stud projecting from the axis 18 of said arrow; a pad member secured to said board; and a bearing fixed in said pad member for receiving said stud.
