Description

' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEe EDWARD DIETSGH, OF FINDLAY, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND J AOOB 0. POWELL, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 108,892, dated November l, 1870.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD DIErsoH, of Findlay, in the county of Hancock and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Plow; and. I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved plow with the wheel in place; Fig. 2, a similar view with the landside partially broken away and the wheel removed; Fig. 3, an inverted plan view of the plow without the wheel.
Similar letters of .reference indicate like parts in the several gures.
My invention consists in the construction of the landside with a tongue or projection, to which the beam is attached, near the point of resistance, so as to make the draft central;
Y also, in the peculiar construction and arrangement of a device for the vertical adjustment of the wheel to regulate the depth of the plowing, all as hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, A represents the landside, which is cast with a tongue or projection, a, on the under side. To the side of this rib is attached, by bolts or other improved means, the inner portion ofthe curved beam B.- The 'attachment is thus made at or near the point of resistance, and the draft' is consequently central.
To the rear part of the projection a is secured the right handle, b, ofthe plow, and the the round center pin, d, rigidly attached to the ilange-wheel E. The hanger D is made with two or more intersecting openings of the form shown at c, Fig. Q and it is attached to the side of the tongue a by a bolt, j', having a square head adapted to fit tightly into either of the openings e.' When the nut g on the inner end of the bolt f is loosened the hanger, and with it the Wheel7 may be adjusted up or down, as desired, and then Xed in position by again tightening the nut. lhe wheel is attached to the hanger by means of anut screwed onto the inner endot the center pin, d. The dotted lines in Figs. l and 2 show the position of the wheel and hanger when lowered.
F represents the point, share, and vertical cutting-edge.
My arrangement of the beam serves t0 balance the plow and throw its entire weight on the wheel, and the latter is so constructed that the ordinary scraper is rendered unnecessary, while the lower rear point of the landsidc effectually clears all accumulations from the face or rim of the wheel, and requires no extra setting when the wheel is adj usted. In connection with these advantages and my improved wheel adjustment may be mentioned the simplicity and durability of construction 5 and all these features combine to form a lightdraft, convenient, and desirable plow. v 1 Having thus described my invention,.wha I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement and combination of the tongue a, beam B, hanger D,'and handle b, all as shown and described.
' EDWARD DIETSCH.
