Description

NPEERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON, D. CV
ibrida gana' @sind .l @Mire- Letters Patent No. 108,748, dated October 25, 1870.
lMPROVEM ENT IN- SHlNGLl-NG-BRACKETS. I
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern Be' it known that I, EDWARD J. WORCESTER, of the 'city and county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts have invented certain new and useful Improvernents in Shingling-Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a, full, clear, and exact description of' the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of Y this specification', in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my irnproved` shingling-bracket, and
Figure 2 represents a central vertical section of the same.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my in- -ventiou belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it morein detail.
The nature of my invention consists in an improved shingling-bracket, as hereinafter described.
My improved bracket is composed of a bed-piece, A, a vertical standard,'B, and a horizontal supporting-piece, C, which pieces are framed together as follows:
The pieces A and C are joined together-at one of their ends, and the piece B arranged between them at about one-fourth of their length from the opposite ends, in the manner shown'in the drawing.A
A metallic foot-piece, D, is attached to the upper end of the bed-piece A.
At its junction with fthe supporting-piece C it is provided with va ange, A, and is also secured by screws or a bolt passed through the ear-piecesb.
The end of the foot D projects beyond the end of 'the wood-work, and is made thin and iiat, sov that it can be passedup between the shingles E, as shown, for the purpose of holding the upper end of the bracket in position upon the roof F.
InV the -rear end ot' the bed-piece A is formed a longitudinal sla-t, j, and arranged therein is4 a clampvscrew, G, for securing the bracket in position.
'Ihelower end of the clamp-screw is provided with a hook, I, which is passed under the lower end of a shingle, and upon which itis firmly clamped by turning down the -nut K, which nut is provided with thumbanges, .as indicated. The slot f permits of adjustment to different lengths of lap on the shingles.
A washer, c, is arranged between the nut and piece A, tov prevent damage to the wood.
The boards for the staging are laid upon the supporting-pieces C, from one bracket to another.
It will be observed that my improved bracket can be attached to the roof very quickly, and in a secure and safe manner, and that, too, without injury to the roof by driving nails or screws through the shingles. Having described my improvements in shinglingbrackets, f What I claim therein as new and of my invention, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the bracket-pieces AB'C, of the foot-piece D, clamping-screw G I, and nut K, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
' EDWARD J. WORCESTER. Witnesses:
A. E. PEIRCE, Tiros. H. DODGE.
