WETED TATE$ PATENT @FFEQE.
JOSEPH TICI-IY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
JOURNAL-BEARING.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrn TICI-IY, a citi- Zen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Journal-Bearings, of which the following is a specificat-ion.
My invention relates to improvements in journal bearings, and has for its object the production of a device of this character which shall be of simple construction and efficient in operation.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a construction embodying my invention, and Fig. 2, an enlarged detail section taken through one of the journal bearings thereof.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises two semi-cylindrical clamping members 1 adapted to embrace and be attached to an ordinary telephone transmitter, screws 2 serving to secure said clamping members together in clamping position. Each of the clamping members 1 is provided with a pair of supporting arms 3 in which is rotatably mounted a shaft at. Each of the shafts d carries a wooden spool 5 and is extended at one end and a hand wheel 8 is secured to said extension and serves as a means for rotating the spools. Shafts e are placed in position in arms 3 through slots leading to the bearings therefor, said slots being afterward plugged or closed by means of screws 9. A strip of perforated paper 10 has one end secured to one of the spools 5 and is wound upon said spool to form a roll. Each of the clamping members 1 carries another pair of supporting arms 11 in which are mounted wooden rollers 12, which are ar- Specification of Letters Patent.

ranged to guide the paper strip 10 over the mouth piece 13 of the telephone transmitter. Each of the guide rollers 12 is mounted upon a shaft 1-1 which is rotatably mounted in the outer ends of arms 11. Shafts 14: are removably held in position by means of lock-screws 15 threaded into entry slots substantially the same as the mounting of shafts 4- as explained above.
IVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a frame provided with bearings, there being a threaded slot in said frame leading to each of said bearings and adapted to permit the entry of a shaft to said bearings, and screws closing said slots, substantially as described.
:2. A device of the class described comprising a frame provided with bearings, there being a threaded slot in said frame leading to each of said bearings and of greater diameter than said bearings, said slot being adapted to admit a shaft to said bearings; and screws closing said slots, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
