form to assure the perfect working thereof when in use, the wall paper being held in a roll upon a reel and is guided therefrom so that the paste will be conveniently and uniformly distributed on one side thereof.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a machine of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in its use, and inexpensive inmanufacture. r 7

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

The flanges 15 formed-by the protruding edges of the-end walls 10 above the top 11 are formed with slots 16 for receiving the journal ends 17 of the cylinder or roller 13, which is readily detachable in a manner presently described.

Swingingly supported upon the tank A is a frame comprising substantially U- shaped ends 18 and connecting rods 19 which are disposed at opposite sides and spaced from the periphery of the roller or drum 13, the ends 18; being swingingly supported upon pivots 20' mounted in the flanges 15 so that the framecan be raised andlowered when it is desired to train the wall paper 21 over the drum or roller '13, the wall paper being in a roll, and is supported upon a reel 22 which has its shaft or journal 23 detachably engaged in fork terminals 2 1 of the ends 18 of the frame, and upon one end of this shaftor journal is a hand crank 25 so that the wallpaper 21 can bereadily wound upon the reel 22 or unwound therefrom as the occasion may require. c

Fixed to the end walls 10 of the tankA are leaf spring catches 28 which engage the ends 18 of the'frame to lock the same in position when lowered for the guiding of the wall paper over the paste applying drum or roller 13 so that'the paste from the tank will be applied to one side thereof.

The reel 22 has its disk-like ends 29 formed with slots 30 in which are slidably fitted the ends of a clamping bar 31 which serves to clamp the end of the wall paper per on the reel 22 holds the bar 81 in clamping relation to the end of the paper so as to prevent the same from slipping or becoming detached while the paper is being Wound upon the reel.

The ends 18 of the frame when fastened by the catches 28 hold the ournal ends 17 of the paste applying drum or roller 13 in the slots 16, and on the raising of the said frame the said drum or roller 13 can be readily re- -moved, and when this isdone the tank A can be readily filled with paste through the opening 12 in its top. V

Formed in the top 11 of the tank A contiguous to the front edge of the opening 12 therein is araised rib 32 which serves as a scraper for removing excessive paste from the side of the paper to which the same has been'applied, and this excessive paste flows in the direction of the opening 12 so as to return therethrough into the tank, and in this manner waste of the paste is avoided.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted. 7

What is claimed is 1. A paste applying machine comprising a tank, a frame pivotally mounted thereon,

a paste roller detachably mounted in the tank and exposed through the top thereof and held in position by the frame, a wall paper supporting reel mounted in the frame,

and a ,presser roller mounted in the frame.

2. A paste applying machine comprising a tank, a frame pivotally mounted thereon, a

paste roller detachably mounted in the tank and exposed through the top thereof and held in position by the frame, a wall paper supporting reel mounted in the frame, a presser roller mounted in. the frame, and means in the frame for guiding wall paper directly over the paste applying roller.

3. A paste applying machine comprising a tank, a frame pivotally mounted thereon, a paste roller detachably mounted in the tank and exposed through the top thereof and held in position by the frame, a wall paper supporting reel mounted in the frame, a presser roller mounted in the frame, means inthe frame for guiding wall paperdirectly over the paste applying roller, and catches mounted on the tank for locking the frame in cooperativerelation to the paste applying roller.

A paste applying machine comprising a tank, a frame pivotally mounted thereon, a paste roller detachably mounted in the tank and exposed through the top thereof and held in position by the frame, a wall paper supporting reel mounted in the frame, a presser roller mounted in the frame, means in the frame for guiding wall paper directly over the paste applying roller, catches mounted on the tank for locking the frame in cooperative relation to the paste applying roller, and a scraper rib struck upwardly from the top of the tank contiguous to the paste applying roller.
