EUGENE W. STOREY. OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SIGN-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1914:.
Application filed January 24, 1912. Serial No. 673,179.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE W. STOREY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sign hangers and has for its object the provisions of a device of this character which is of improved construction and operation.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a side elevation of a sign and hanger embodying my invention, Fig. 2, an enlarged horizontal section taken on line w--m of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3, an enlarged horizontal section taken on line yy of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises an angular supporting member having its vertical leg 1 mounted in supporting eyes 2 and 3 to turn upon a vertical axis. Supporting eye 3 is provided with an angular recess 1 in its upper face and leg 1 carries a pin 5 resting in said recess, said pin serving as a vertical support for said leg and also as a means for limiting the lateral turning of leg 1 by engaging the sides of recess 4.. The other leg 6 of the angular supporting member is extended horizontally and provided with an eye 7 at its outer end. Eye 7 is provided with an angular recess 8 similar to recess 4 and engages an eye 9 formed at the lower end of the leg 10 of a triangular member 11. By this arrangement it will be observed that eye 9 i free to swing in eye 7 about both a vertical and horizontal axis and that the edges of recess 8 will limit the swing about the vertical axis in each direction. An upwardly and outwardly extending socket 12 is formed at the upper apex of triangular member 11 and is adapted to receive the staff 13 of a flag or pennant. The horizontal leg 14 of triangular member 11 is extended, as shown and blocks 15 are adjustably secured there- By adjusting the sign member 16 on the leg 14, said sign may be readily adjusted until the center of gravity of the sign, the triangular support and the flag falls under the support for eye 9, thus establishing a state of stable equilibrium.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification with- 1 out departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a support pivoted at a single point to swing freely vertically and horizontally; and a sign hung on said support, substantially as described.
2. A device of the class described comprising a supporting member in triangular form with it base extended at one end and forming a support for a sign, and the side of said supporting member adjacent the extended end of the base being pivoted at its lower end to swing vertically and horizontally; and a sign hung on said base, substantially as described.
3. A device of the class described comprising an annular supporting member having one leg pivoted to turn about a vertical axis with the other leg extended horizontally and provided with an eye at its outer end; a supporting member in triangular form with its base extended at one end and forming a support for a sign, and the side of said second supporting member adjacent the extended end of the base being provided .7 Sign hung on said base, substantially as de at its lower end with an eye engaging the name to this specification in the presence of eye ef said 110riz011ta11y extending 10g so as two subscribing Witnesses. to pure? sa d second suppertlng member to EUGENE STOREY swing vertically and horizontally; and a Vitnesses HELEN F. LILLIs,
scribed.
JOSHUA R. H. PoTTs.
In testimony whereof I have signed my fiopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. 0.
