W. S. GRANMER.
GHART HANGER.
Patented May 8,1894.
Fllll mildew/I11, 0122171710671 MM 1121mm UNITED STATES, I
PATENT OFFICE.
.WILLIAM S. ORANMER, OF SUISUN CITY, CALIFORNIA.
CHART-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,467, dated May 8, 1894.
Application and July 12, 1893. Serial No. 480.260. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. CRANMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Suisun City, in the county of Solano and State of California, have invented certain new and usef ul Improvements in Chart-Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to chart hangers or holders, and has for its object to provide a simple and convenient means for displaying a chart of any formwherever it may be desired, and it is so arranged that a chart may be readily taken down and'another put up in place thereof, and when not in use it maybe turned against a wall or other support, back out of the way.
In the drawings:-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved chart hanger or holder. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the parts of the hanger or holder separated.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the wall, or. other suitable upright support, havinga plate 2 secured thereto, and provided with a hooked bearing arm 3, a greater part of the latter being vertically disposed. Below the plate2 is mounted another plate 4, having a vertical socket or sleeve 5.
A head, comprising a pair of clamping strips 6, of wood or other material, is provided, and between the same is mounted the upper end of the chart 7 and thereby securely held. Over the ends of said strips 6 are mounted caps or castings 8 and 9, which form bearings, the cap 8 being provided with an eye 10 loosely and removably fitted over the arm 3 of the plate 2. Cap 9 is formed with a vertical sleeve or socket 11, in which snugly fits the upper bearing end 12 of a diagonal brace 13, which is also formed with a lower bearing end 14., rotatably fitted in the vertical socket or sleeve 5 of the plate 4. The said diagonal brace is provided with collars 15 adjacent to its bearing ends 12 and 14 which form shoulders that support the chart through the medium of said brace. The lower end of said brace being revolubly mounted at its lower end, permits the chart to be turned from side to sidev in order to fully display the same from every point.
lhe device heretofore set forth is capable of being readily taken apart or dismounted, as quickly put up; one chart may be rapidly substituted in place of another, and by this means the device is especially useful in supporting reading, music, or penmanship charts for school-room purposes, as well as exhibit and other charts in lecture and court-rooms.
' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is-- 1. In a chart hanger, the combination of a head consisting of two separable strips, removable end caps for holding said strips together, said caps being provided with bearings, the bearing of the inner cap forming a pivotal connection with a support, and a diagonal brace having its upper end engaging the bearing of the outer cap, and a lower bearing with which the said brace removably and pivotally engages, substantially as described.
2. In a chart hanger, the combination of a pair of strips between which the upper end of the chart is held, caps removably mounted on the ends of said strips, one of which is provided with an eye, and the other with a vertical socket, an upper plate having avertical.
' WILLIAM! s. CRANMER.
