SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 691,062, dated January 14, 1902.
Application filed May 11, 1901- Serial No. 59,864. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMMA KUNsT,a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dress-Fitting Stands, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of this invention are to provide a low revolving platform which a lady may easily step upon from the floor and stand comfortably, be turned around by the moving platform without changing position to permit the dress-fitter to drape the figure, and have a level surface at a convenient height above the floor to enable the fitter to arrange the proper length and avoid the uneven edge of the skirt which so frequently occurs when the person to be fitted stands upon the same level as the fitter. To attain these objects, I provide a round flat top having an outer casing extending downward to the floor. This top is supported upon a pivotunderneath the center, having a bearing in a center block resting upon a ball caster on the floor. From the center block extend horizontally four arms at right angles relatively to each other and are provided at the free ends and inside the casing with a vertical post. Each post carries on its head a roller and a caster at its foot, which rests upon the floor. The roller provides a means formaintaining the level of the top without friction when the weight upon it moves from the center. The five casters underneath the stand permit the free movement of the device about the room, while the top and easing may be revolved upon the pivotal center and at all times maintain a level surface for the purpose intended. This construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a viewin perspective of the device. Fig. 2 is a top view inverted. Fig. 3 Figs. et
is a cross-section on line 3 3, Fig. 2. and 5 are details.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the construction the flat top A is provided with a pivot C, attached firmly underneath the center of the top A and having its bearing in a bore in the center block E. Extending outwardly horizontally from center block E, at right angles to each other, are four arms F, each having a post G at the free end inside the casing B. Each post G has a roller H in a bearing on its head and is supported on the floor bya ball-caster I. Asimilar caster supports the center block E. The round flat top A, as shown, will revolve upon its center. The rollers H will maintain it in a perfectly level position when the weight of the person on the stand is moved from the center and will always present an even level surface, from which measurements may be made and straight lines drawn, while the body of the person may be turned around by the fitter without a change of position.
Having thus described my invention, while I am aware that dining-tables have been made with revolving parts either upon or in the table, I do not claim the same, broadly; but
lVhat I do claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
I. In a dress'fitting stand, arotatable plat form consisting of a fiat top with a down wardly-extendin g casing and having a central pivotal support upon a center block, arms extending horizontally outwardly from said center block, a post at the free end of each arm, aroller in a bearing on the head of each post and acaster at the foot substantially as specified.
2. In a dress-fitting stand, the combination of a level platform rotatably mounted upon a center block, with arms extending outwardly from said center block, a post at the free end of each of said arms, a roller mounted in a bearing on the head of each post and a caster under each foot substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
v EMMA KUNST.
