Beit known thatI, ROBERTO. FUNkn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia,in the county of' Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hammock- Stands, of which the following' is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, reliable, attractive, and comparatively inexpensive knockdown adjustable hammock-stand which can be safely employed with hammocks of various sizes and may be packed in an exceedingly small compass.
The invention comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed, and itwill be more `fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view, partly in section and with portions removed, of a hammock-stand embodying' features of the invention. Fig'. 2 is a frontview, partly in section, drawn to an enlarged scale and illustrating one of the bases shown in Fig'. l; and Figs. 3 and A are respectively a sectional and a plan view of bases embodying a modification of the invention.
In the drawings, l and 2 are a pair of supports arrang'ed at an outward inclination with respect to each other. They are provided with laterally-extending bases 3, perforated, as at it.
5 is a horizontal bar which extends through the perforations l.
The hammock is suspended from the supports, and the latter may be slipped along the bar 5, so as to secure the proper adjustment. ll'henever weight is broug'ht to bear upon the hammock, the ei'ect is to bend the walls of the perforations upon the rod 5 in such a way that they are firmly and safely held. The supports are shown to consist of arms, which are detachably inserted in sockets T in the bases 3.
As illustrated in Fig'. 2, the lateral extensions 8 of the bases are integral and may, together with the rest of the base, be constructed of wood` the edge 9 being' beveled, so as to rest upon the ground or other foundation.
As shown in Figs. 3 and A, the base consists of a casting l0, which may be of malleable iron and of a bar or strip of wood 8, arranged crosswisc of the same, so as to constitute lateral projections. The form of the casting IO is shown in the drawings, and it may be fitted with a set-screw ll, which 1s a convenient provision when the stand is to be moved about, although, as has been explained, it is unnecessary for the purposes of supporting the weight which is placed upon the hainmock. 'l2 represents screws or the like which serve to hold the bar or strip, as of wood, 8 to place.
To knock down or take the stand apart, it is only necessary to detach the arms from the socket 7 and to slip thc bases 3 ofil the bar 5, and in the case of the construction shown in Figs. 3 -and A the strip 8 may be detached from the casting IO.
To those skilled in the art to which the invention relates modifications may be made in details without departing from the spirit thereof. Hence the invention is not limited further than the prior state of the art may require; but,

4. A knockdown adjustable hammock-stand comprising a pair of castings provided with pcrforations and with inclined sockets, strips applied to said bases, arms fitted to said sockets, and a bar extending' through the perforations in the bases, substantially as described.
