To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, GENNARO GIUGLIANO, a citizen of the United States, and resident of `West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin- Holders, of which the following is a specilication.

rilhe object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient holder for retaining a row of pins in position to be readily picked from a paper of pins, and whereby a new row of pins may be placed in position as each row is exhausted, the device being cheap to manufacture and convenient in use and operation.

In carrying out my invention I provide a frame or casing adapted to receive a paper of pins and having an open portion near its top adjacent to an upper ledge or bar, upon which a Jortion of the a )er of eins ma be' laid, and a holding or retaining member adapted to be removably held upon the paper strip at the back of or beyond the row of exposed pins to retain the paper on said ledge or bar.

My invention further comprises novel details of improvement and combinations of parts that will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein,

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

ln the drawings the numeral l indicates a frame or casing, which may be made of any suitable material, such as sheet metal, and is shown in substantially triangular form having a bottom la, a rear wall 1b and a front wall 1, of such dimensions as to receive a paper or package of pins 2 within the frame or casing. The upper edge of the front wall l3 is spaced from the upper portion of the rear wall lb to provide the opening 3, whereby the row of pins 2a may be exposed above the ledge or bar 1d, that is located at the upper edge of rear wall l". At least one end 3a of opening 3 is preferably open to permit ready insertion edgewise of the upwardly disposed portion 2b of the paper or package of pins, so that the extended part 2c of the latter may be laid over the ledge or bar ld.

The front wall lc is shown secured to the rear wall lb by the extended lug or bent portion le of the front wall soldered or otherwise secured to the rear wall l", whereby the front and rear walls are reliably connected' together. Upon the ledge or bar ld is attached a retainer 4;, adapted to bear upon the rear portion 2 of the paper of pins, to retain the latter in position with the adjacent row of pins 2a extending vertically along the rear wall lb, with the heads of the pins projecting upwardly in convenient position to be grasped. The retainer l may be in the form of a strip of suit-able metal, preferably spring-like, such as a strip of spring steel or brass, which is movably or pivotally connected with ledge or bar ld by the pivot, eyelet or the like 5, whereby retainer l may be swung sidewise when applying or removing the package of pins. The retainer 4: is shown retained in operating position upon the extended portion 2 of the package of pins by a keeper et engaging the end of the ledge or bar 1d, such keeper being shown formed by bending or coiling the end of retainer 4L to snap on the end of ledge or bar 1d. The rear edge lb of the retainer 4t is shown bent downwardly to bear down on the extended portion 2C of the paper, to cause the same to depend or hang down, as illustrated in Fig. 2. At G is a pin cushion of any suitable construction, shown having a base member 6a, a cover 6", and a filling of suitable material 6, the cushion being shown secured upon the front wall lc by the fastening device.

In using my improvements the paper or package of pins is opened out slightly to provide the extended portion 2b, 2C, and then the same may be slipped edgewise into the pin holder, through the open end of the frame or casing, and through the opening 3, the retainer t having first been released from ledge or bar 1d. The portion 2c of the paper of pins is laid over ledge or bar 1l in such position that the upper row of pins will project in position to be grasped, as shown, and retainer 4; is fastened down over the extended part 2c of the paper of pins, and snapped on the end of ledge 1d. When the upper or exposed row of pins has been exhausted, part 2C of the paper may be pulled between the ledge l1 and retainer 4f, until the next row of pins is extended upwardly in position to be grasped, or the retainer may be released and removed when such row of pins is being adjusted to position.

At S is a tape, belt or the like shown passing through openings 9 in one of the walls of the holder, and having its ends extended from the traine, whereby said tape may be adjusted upon the pin holder to the proper position, and whereby the pin holder may be fastened around the waist of the user by ty` ing the ends oi the tape together or by any suitable fastening thereon. By this means the pin holder may be held upon the person in convenient position to pick off the pins when fitting garments, etc.

Having now described my invention what I claim is l. Apin holder comprising a frame having walls adapted to receive a paper of pins, adjacent portions of the upper parts of two said walls being located near together with a space therebetween providing an opening for the passage of a portion of the paper of pins, one of said walls having a ledge bent transversely from said wall to receive a portion of the paper of pins, and a retainer upon said ledge located at one side of the wall to retain an extended portion of the paper thereon with a row of pins exposed in position to be grasped.

2. A pin holder comprising a frame having walls adapted to receive a paper of pins, adjacent portions oi' the upper parts of two of said walls being located near together' with a space therebetween providing an opening for yhe passage of a portion of the paper of pins, one end of said opening being open to admit said portion of the paper edgewise into said opening, and a flexible retainer pivoted to swing sidewise upon the upper part of one of said walls to retain part of said paper at an edge of one of said walls.

8. A pin holder comprising a frame having walls adapted to receive a paper of pins, adjacent portions of the upper parts of two Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of said walls being located near together with a space therebetween providing an opening for the passage of a portion of the paper of pins, one of said walls at its upper corner having a lug secured to the other wall and the opposite ends of said walls being disconnected providing a passage :tor a portion of the paper of pins, one of said walls having a laterally disposed ledge adjacent said opening to receive a projecting portion of the paper of pins, and a transversely disposed retainer movably attached at one end to said ledge, adapted to overlie a portion of the paper of pins on said ledge, and means to secure the opposite end of said retainer upon the underlying edge of said ledge.

e. n pin holder comprising a iframe having walls adapted to receive a paper of pins, adjacent portions of the upper parts of two of said walls being located near together with a space therebetween providing an opening for the passage of a portion of the paper of pins, one of said walls having a lug at its upper corner secured to the other wall and the opposite ends of said walls being disconnected providing a passage for a portion of the paper of pins, one of said walls having a laterally disposed ledge adjacent said opening to receive a portion of the paer of pins, and a flexible retainer movably attached at one end to said ledge near one end thereof, adapted to overlie a portion of the paper or' pins on said ledge, said retainer having a bent portion at its free end to snap on the edge of said ledge.
