CHARLES E. EIKENBERG,
OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
COMBINED COUNTER AND FOOT-RAIL BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. EIKEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Counters and Foot-Rail Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in a combined counter and foot rail bracket and has for its object a suitable casting on which is supported, and by which is firmly secured the counter, and detachable rail supporting arms.
A further object of my invention is to construct a bracket which supports the counter in an elevated position above the fioor line in order to prevent the counter from rot-ting, and also to support detachable rail supporting arms, which rail and arms can be readily removed as desired in order that ready access can be had for polishing the rail as well as cleansing the floor and counter base.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bracket showing the counter and foot rail in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the bracket taken on the line AB of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bracket. Fig. I is a perspective view of the rail supporting arm, the rail being broken awa and in section. Fig. 5 is an edge view 0 the base supporting arm and portion of the foot rail. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a portion of the counter showing the application and position of my improved bracket.
Referring to the drawings in detail E represents the base portion of the bracket which is provided with an aperture forming a socket F. In this socket is adapted to be insert-ed the rounded projection D of the rail supporting arm C and the same is held in rigid position after once inserted, by the screw S. The screw S is by no means a necessary adjunct to the device, but is merely used as a safe-guard to prevent the arms and rail from being raised from the brace when contact is brought beneath the rail by the feet.
The base E is provided with an integral vertical member I and a horizontal member J. In these members are provided holes H through which screws are inserted for supporting the bracket to the floor as well as to the counter. L represents the counter Specification of Letters Patent.

frame, N the baseboard and M a strip of marble or the like which gives a finished appearance to the bottom of the counter, all of which rests on the horizontal portion of the base E and is held in elevated position above the floor line so that access may be had beneath the counter for cleaning the floor and to prevent the counter from rotting and becoming saturated with moisture which is thrown upon the floor as is the ordinary custom in dram shops.
In order to lighten the bracket, the base is suitably hollowed out as indicated by the letter G and the space between the vertical member I and the shoulder K of the supporting arm is suflicient to accommodate the thickness of any counter front, together with its ornamental base.
The free end of the supporting arms carry and support the foot rail R and by this arrangement whenever it is necessary to remove the foot rail from its position, the pressure of the screws is released from the rounded projection D and the entire rail together with all of its supportingarms can be readily elevated and removed to any convenient place for polishing.
The essential feature of my invention is to construct a bracket, which supports the counter in an elevated position above the floor line, firmly fastens the same to the floor as well as to support the foot rail, and to provide sanitary condition in the premises.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a bracket to be used for supporting a counter in rigid position to the floor and to keep the counter in elevated position above the floor, said bracket composed of a base portion on which the counter is mounted, a vertical projection by which the bracket is secured to the counter, a horizontal projection by which the bracket is secured to the floor, detachable rail supporting arms supported to the base and a rail connecting the several arms, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES F. EIKENBERG.
Witnesses:
ALFRED A. Phase, WALTER C. STEIN.
