UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GRACE N. DURRE'I'TE, OF STONEWALL, WEST VIRGINIA.
LAVATORY-CABINET.
Application filed January 19, 1912.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, GRACE N. Donnn'r'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stonewall, in the county of Raleigh and State of Test Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lavatory-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to so adapt a lavatory cabinet that when the same is not in use as a lavatory, the equipment thereof may be concealed and the cabinet used as a stand, table or the like.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective of the device when used as a stand, table or the like. Fig. 2 is a front elevation partly in section showing the position of the parts preparatory to using the device as a lavatory. Fig. 3 is a detail elevation partly in section showing the position of the parts when adjusted for lavatory purposes. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of the holder for the lavatory equipment. The cabinet a may be of any preferred marginal or sectional contour, such as circular as shown, and the said cabinet may also be formed of any suitable material such as metal. By preference the door or closure 5 when closed, forms a continuation of the side wall (3 of the cabinet and underlies a segment or portion of the top 7, which latter may be of any preferred shape and if desired, edged with a suitable molding strip 8 so as to impart to it a neat and attractive appearance at all times and especially when the door or closure 5 is swung on its hinges 9 to the closed position, as shown in Fig. 1.
When the door is moved to the closed position as shown in Fig. 1 the slop jar 10 which rests on the bottom 11 of the cabinet underlies the bowl 12 which seats in an opening 13 in the tray or platform 1 in which position the pitcher 15, which as usual is arranged in the bowl, will also underlie the top 7 When the door or closure is swung to the open position as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the tray or platform 14L may be moved vertically by pulling on suitable handles 10 16 connected to the tray in any suitable manner such as by eyes 1717. Suitable hooks l818 are provided for engaging cross Specification of Letters Patent.

pieces 19-19, whereby, to hold the tray in its raised or adjusted position as shown in Fig. 3. The cross pieces l9-19 are connected to the combined braces and guides 20-20 which connect the upper reinforcing ring 21 with the intermediate reinforcing ring 22, the said combined braces and guides being suitably secured to the inner faces of the said rings and connected to the tray by loops 23 or their equivalents.
The towel holder 24 is suitably connected to the upper ring 21, so also the tooth brush holder 25.
A mirror 26 is adjustably connected to an upright 27 connected to the tray 14. The connection between the mirror and upright is such as to admit of the mirrors being folded to a position substantially parallel with the tray which position it will occupy when the tray is lowered and the door in the closed position, or the mirror may be swung to a position substantially vertical when the tray is raised and arranged so that the user may conveniently see his image.
From the foregoing and when the tray has been raised it will be observed that the basin is in a position corresponding to that ordinarily occupied by a basin on the ordinary wash stand, or that occupied by the ordinary bowl used in connection with running water thus, admitting of the device being used with a minimum of bending. In addition it will be observed that requisite articles for washing are within easy reach of the user, the towel rack and brush holder being contiguous to the basin, the soap being arranged in a depression 28 in the tray and a tumbler or mug in a depression 29.
WVhat I claim as new is:
1. In a lavatory cabinet, a door adapted for horizontal swinging movement, a cylindrical support connected to the inner face of said door, a tray normally disposed at the bottom of said support and adapted to be adjusted to the top thereof, and means for supporting said tray in its adjusted position.
2. In a lavatory cabinet, a door, a support connected to the inner face of said door,
a tray for supporting a wash bowl and adapted for adjustment from the bottom to top of said support, handles on said tray for adjusting the same, and means on said handles engaging said support for holding said trayin its adjusted position for the purpose specified.
3. In a lavatory cabinet, a door, a support connected to the inner face of said door, vertically disposed guide rods forming a part of said support, a tray mounted on said guide rods for vertical adjustment, and said tray being provided with article holding means, as described.
4. In a lavatory cabinet, a door adapted for horizontal swinging movement, a support connected to the inner face of said door and comprising a pair of horizontally disposed spaced rings, vertically disposed guide rods connecting said rings, a tray adapted for vertical adjustment mounted on said guide rods, and means on said tray for raising the same and adapted for engagement With said support to retain the tray in iitsadjusted position, for the purpose speci- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
